Henry Cavill says final goodbye to the Witcher

During Netflix’s Tudum event, Henry Cavill bid farewell to his role in The Witcher as he expressed his gratitude towards his co-stars. Cavill shared the stage with fellow cast members Anya Chalotra (Yennefer), Freya Allan (Ciri), and Joey Batey (Jaskier). This appearance follows Cavill’s announcement of his departure from the show, with Liam Hemsworth set to assume the role of Geralt starting from Season 4.

“I suppose we should talk to Henry,” Batey said, addressing the elephant in the room. Cavill avoided talking about himself or his relationship with Netflix, however, despite it likely being his final media appearance for The Witcher.

“I actually just want to talk about my co-stars here because once again it was such a pleasure and an honour to be working with you guys,” he said.

“You guys bring so much nuance and detail to these characters, which are often at risk of being oversimplified, and what you guys have done with the characters has involved work, care, and effort. And believe me, working with you guys was the biggest pleasure. So, [I] just want to say I’m gonna miss you. I’m gonna miss you very much.”

Will Liam Hemsworth be able to replace Cavill in a manner that satisfies the fans?!

In November 2021, Cavill expressed his strong commitment to a seven-season run of The Witcher, emphasizing the importance of telling great stories that honor the original author, Sapkowski. However, he did not provide a detailed reason for his departure after three seasons.

Some speculate that Cavill’s decision may be influenced by Netflix’s creative liberties with the source material, which has received mixed reactions from fans. Beau DeMayo, a former producer, even mentioned that some writers “actively disliked” and ridiculed Sapkowski’s books.

During the Tudum event, Batey thanked Cavill for his remarkable contribution to The Witcher throughout the three seasons. The third season will be released in two parts, with episodes one to five premiering on June 29, followed by episodes six to eight on July 27.
