Exoprimal’s Crossplay Comes With A Huge Problem

Ever since Capcom announced Exoprimal in 2022, players have eagerly anticipated the online multiplayer focus of the dinosaur action game, with the other news of crossplay support.

However, it should be noted that while Exoprimal does support cross-platform matchmaking, it does not allow for cross-platform party creation. This means that players will be unable to invite their friends to parties if they are playing on different platforms.

Today, Capcom took to Twitter to provide further clarification regarding the limitations of crossplay in the game at its launch.

According to the team’s tweet thread, crossplay for party creation will only be available within three specific platform ecosystems.

  • Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows
  • PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5
  • Steam

The limitations seen during Exoprimal’s beta will carry over to the full release for the foreseeable future. The tweet thread suggests that cross-platform parties may eventually be supported in this live service game, but Capcom acknowledges that it could take some time to implement. Additionally, Capcom mentioned that they will soon share a roadmap for the first major post-launch update.

Exoprimal set for a July 14 release

Scheduled for release on July 14, Exoprimal unveiled a new trailer during the recent Capcom Showcase, showcasing new enemies, exosuits, and a new game mode. Previews from last year praised the game as a solid foundation for a PvPvE shooter, but criticized its PvP gameplay as being average and lacking innovation.

In the game’s primary mode, called “Dino Survival,” two teams of five players compete to fulfill objectives set by Leviathan. The primary adversaries in the game are dinosaurs that emerge from mysterious vortexes, including the T-rex, Triceratops, and hordes of raptors. Additionally, there are mutated prehistoric creatures called “NeoSaurs” with unique combat abilities. The objectives and combat challenges players encounter include Dinosaur Cull, VTOL Defense, Data Key Security, Omega Charge, and Energy Taker.

Game director Takuro Hiraoka mentioned that players may sometimes have to fight against or alongside each other. In the Dinosaur Cull objective, players must eliminate a specific type of dinosaur, while in VTOL Defense, their task is to protect a grounded aircraft from dinosaur attacks. Players earn experience points by completing objectives, allowing them to enhance their characters and unlock additional story missions.
