Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song’s engagement comes at the perfect time for the private couple.
Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song ‘Are Excited for Their Future Together’
The pair, who welcomed their 9-month-old son Dakota last April, is over the moon about their future as a family after getting engaged. “Macaulay and Brenda have loved being together as a family since welcoming Dakota,” a source tells PEOPLE.
“The engagement is the natural next step for them. They are excited for their future together,” the source adds. Earlier on Wednesday, PEOPLE confirmed the couple of four years was engaged.
Song, 33, was photographed sporting a diamond ring on her left hand while out and about in Beverly Hills, California, on Monday.
How did they meet each other?
Culkin, 41, and Song met on the set of their movie Changeland in Thailand and were first romantically linked when they were spotted out in July 2017 grabbing dinner at Craig’s, an Italian restaurant in Los Angeles.
While the two actors are notable stars, they’ve kept their relationship relatively private on social media, except for special occasions, like when Song posted a photo of them on a date night in November at an L.A. Rams game.
“Very few things can get us out of the house and away from our son,” she wrote in the caption. In 2018, Culkin spoke about his relationship with Song and their plans for the future while on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, revealing he and Song were trying to have a baby.
“This one’s a good one, so I’m probably going to put some babies in her in a little bit,” Culkin said, laughing. “I mean, we’ve definitely been practicing.” He continued, saying he and Song have “a good life.”
Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song Welcome a Baby Boy Named Dakota in Honor of Actor’s Late Sister
The couple welcomed their first child, son Dakota Song Culkin, on Monday, April 5, at 1:10 p.m. in Los Angeles, weighing 6 lbs., 14 oz., PEOPLE confirms. Culkin, 40, and Song, 33, named their newborn after the actor’s late sister Dakota.
Dakota died at age 29 after being accidentally struck by a car on December 9, 2008, in Los Angeles. “We’re overjoyed,” Culkin and Song said in a brief statement about the arrival of their first child.
In 2018, Culkin spoke about his intentions of starting a family with Song during an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, saying, at the time, that he wanted to “make some babies.”This one’s a good one, so I’m probably going to put some babies in her in a little bit,” he said, laughing. “I mean, we’ve definitely been practicing.”
“I’m going to have some pretty babies. She’s Asian, so I’m gonna have tiny little Asian babies. It’s going to be adorable — a bunch of Sean Lennons running around the house, that’s what I’m looking for,” he added, referring to the son of Beatles member John Lennon and Yoko Ono.
Culkin has recently been spotted filming the upcoming American Horror Story season 10 with costars Leslie Grossman, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Billie Lourd, Evan Peters, Adina Porter, Lily Rabe, Angelica Ross, and Finn Wittrock.
Macaulay Culkin in music
There’s an old adage that “all actors secretly want to be rock stars, and all rock stars wish they could act”. I say “an old adage”, what I actually mean is I heard it once and wanted to reference it but couldn’t find the quote. This is presumably how all aphorisms are born.
Regardless, examples of the transition are numerous: Russell Crowe has his band 30 Odd Foot of Grunts, for which you can create your own rhyming slang joke; Joe Pesci once recorded a rap track, which is every bit what you’re imagining it’s like; and Billy Bob Thornton has released at least four LPs specifically targeted at a demographic of vest and tobacco-spitting enthusiasts.
Latest to join this ever-growing group of thespian transitionists is former child star and now adult human Macaulay Culkin, who it has been revealed has a pizza-themed Velvet Underground tribute band – a description you read entirely correctly, and one that encapsulates the kind of arbitrary hipster subversion normally confined to episodes of Portlandia and deleted scenes from Diablo Cody films.
You half expect Michael Cera to have spawned the idea by stumbling into the rehearsal room muttering, “I filled your swimming pool with Tic Tacs and fashioned this burrito into a flute. Want to start a band where all the songs are about carbohydrates?” He didn’t though. They came up with it all on their own. But this dalliance with dough isn’t Culkin’s first foray into the world of melody making.
So what is Macaulay Culkin up to now?
After frequent cameos and some parts in movies, shows, and even theater productions, Culkin created his own podcast. As CEO and publisher of a satirical pop culture website and podcast called Bunny Ears, Culkin has been making a name for himself online.
Culkin even held a contest allowing people to vote on a new middle name for him — changing it from Carson to one of these: Macaulay Culkin, Kieran, TheMcRibIsBack, Publicity Stunt, and Shark Week. While the joke was meant to increase his publicity, as one of the names implied, he did legally change his name in 2019.
With 61,000 votes, the answer to the name change challenge became Macaulay Culkin, which now puts the actor’s legal name as Macaulay Macaulay Culkin Culkin.
Macaulay reportedly has a cameo in the new ‘Home Alone’ movie
According to The Sun, Culkin has been in talks to accept a cameo role in the reboot of the Home Alone series, which is set to debut on Dec. 1, 2021. The part reportedly comes with a paycheck to the tune of £2.5 million. The cameo would be brief, as a nod to the success of the original movies. It wouldn’t be the first cameo Culkin has accepted, one being at a WWE wrestling match where the iconic paint can trap was used.
Additionally, American Horror Story: Double Feature will star Culkin as Mickey as he joins the tenth season of the show. This, in addition to his cameo in Home Alone‘s reboot, makes 2021 a big year for the former child star, acting-wise. The first episode of American Horror Story: Double Feature premieres on Aug. 25, 2021.
Culkin grew tired of acting and retired after Richie Rich. Wanting a “normal life”, he went to a private high school in Manhattan.
Mainly parodying songs by the Velvet Underground with pizza-themed song names and lyrics, the group consisted of Macaulay Culkin (kazoo, percussion and vocals) along with Matt Colbourn (guitar, vocals), Phoebe Kreutz (glockenspiel, vocals), Deenah Vollmer (pizza box, vocals) and Austin Kilham (tambourine, vocals).
Macaulay Culkin net worth and Career Earnings: Macaulay Culkin is a New York born retired actor who has a net worth of $18 million dollars.
Kieran Culkin has gained acclaim in his Emmy-nominated role in HBO’s Succession, but his current level of fame doesn’t come close to his brother, Macaulay Culkin. Macaulay was one of the biggest child actors of all time before his retirement at the age of 14.
