Elden Ring: How To Find Map Fragments? Where is Weeping Peninsula location?

Elden Ring World Map Fragments Guide South Limgrave Feature
The map in Elden Ring is something new to FromSoftware RPGs, though most other games feature a map of some kind. The map isn’t like most open-world game maps, though, and does very little to guide the player towards points of interest. In fact, the map is almost completely devoid of detail – that is, unless you collect Map Fragments.

Elden Ring: How To Find Map Fragments

Map Fragments reveal Elden Ring’s world map, but only in small parcels. It would be accurate to compare this feature to Breath of the Wild’s Sheikah Tower system, which reveals entire regions upon discovery. Map Fragments are associated with a subregion of a larger zone, and collecting them all for a region can go a long way in making navigation and orienteering easier.

Map Fragments are automatically added to your world map when picked up, but they only outline the basic topography, roads, and environmental features of the area. The game lets players use Map Markers for a reason; they’re the only way to highlight points of interest, which makes it much easier to return to a boss, a hidden NPC, or a source of crafting materials.

To find Map Fragments in Elden Ring, first look at your empty map more closely. There isn’t much to see, but if you look alongside the faint outlines of roads you will see faded obelisk-like markers. These symbols, little more than smudges, show where a Beacon can be found.

Map Fragments for a given area can be found at the base of these Beacons, which themselves are tall monuments that jut out from the roadside. With the map screen open, place a Beacon on these points with the A button (or X) to highlight their location in the world with a beam of light, which can be seen surprisingly far. Some of these Beacons are surrounded by enemies, like the first Map Fragment by the Gatefront Ruins Site of Lost Grace which is in the middle of a small army of Godrick Soldiers.

Weeping Peninsula Map Fragment location

The Weeping Peninsula Map Fragment is located in the south-east of the region. If you haven’t already visited the area, you can do so more or less from the start of the game – make sure you have the horse Torrent, then speed over the Bridge of Sacrifice in the south-east of Limgrave, then follow the road south.

First, start by head to the wall that runs along the middle of the southern region, where you will find a merchant and a site of grace, positioned here:

Proceed south down the path, and very shortly, the Map Fragment will be on your right. Don’t proceed any further – huge arrows will rain down upon you otherwise!

Liurnia of the Lakes Map Fragment locations

There are three Map Fragments which will help you flesh out the Liurnia region. The East Liurnia Map Fragment can be found just north of the Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace.

Know that, unlike most other Map Fragments, this will have enemies not only jump out at you on the approach, but as you reach the obelisk itself – so be on your guard!

The North Liurnia Map Fragment is situated in Academy Gate Town, a location in the east of the lake itself. The obelisk is found on the south side of the settlement, somewhat out in the open. In our experience few enemies approached, making this a straightforward one to collect.

Finally, the West Liurnia Map Fragment is found next to the Northern Liurnia Lake Shore Site of Grace. Head north-west from the lake water, up the bank, and follow the path that runs on the western side of the region. As with the North Fragment, you shouldn’t encounter much resistance at the site itself.

How to access the map in Elden Ring

When you finish the tutorial of Elden Ring, you will find yourself in Limgrave. This is the first region of The Lands Between – the territory where Elden Ring’s story takes place.

Unlike with other games, in Elden Ring you have access to the map from the very beginning. Though the details on it will be “locked”. You will only see major roads and points of interest will be marked on it as you discover them. Nearly nothing else.

You will also be able to see where the lands are and where the sea begins. In the image above you see the golden circles, representing the Grace checkpoints that you have already discovered (or in this case I have discovered).

The golden “flames” point you in the general direction of the main path of the game. You do not have to follow it, of course. And not every Grace location will have golden flames pointing in a direction.

To open the Map, press “G” on PC, TouchPad on PlayStation and ChangeView button on Xbox controllers. If you need some extra help, consult with my guide to Elden Ring’s PC and Consoles Controls.

How to reveal the map in Elden Ring

To reveal the full map in Elden Ring, you have to find map fragments. Each sub-section of The Lands Between can be “unlocked” with a map fragment that is located in a specific location.

When I say “unlocked” I mean “displayed with its full details. Even while you don’t see the full data on your map, you can still almost freely roam around. It would just be easier with a visible map. You will find Map Fragments attached to a certain type of pillars, located near roads (usually) in the different regions.

Where can I find map fragments?

During Ranni’s questline, you’ll find yourself in the Lake of Rot beneath Nokstella, Eternal City. Shortly after arriving, you’ll see a shiny item to your right, past the Site of Grace. This is the map fragment. Those are the map fragments and their locations in Elden Ring.

How many map fragments are in Elden Ring?

There are 19 map fragments in total to fully reveal the vast world map of The Lands Between, and we’ve charted your course to finding them all in Elden Ring.

Where is the first map fragment in Elden Ring?

The first map piece you’ll come across in Elden Ring is Limgrave, West. As with most map pieces, it’s by a stone monument. You can find it outside the camp (Gatefront Ruins) close to the Gatefront grace site.

Does Elden Ring have a map?

Unlike with other games, in Elden Ring you have access to the map from the very beginning. Though the details on it will be “locked”. You will only see major roads and points of interest will be marked on it as you discover them. Nearly nothing else.
