Is Diablo Immortal going to be free on PC? How to Enable Cross-Progression?

Diablo Immortal Release Date & PC Announce Trailer

Diablo Immortal is an upcoming free-to-play video game in the Diablo series, designed primarily for mobile devices. The massively multiplayer online action role-playing game takes place between the events of Diablo II and Diablo III. Developed by Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase, it was announced in late 2018 and is planned for release on Android, and iOS on June 2, 2022, with a beta release for Windows on the same date.

Is Diablo Immortal going to be free on PC?

We already knew Blizzard is working on a new entry in the Diablo series that is designed for mobile devices. And today, timed to coincide with Activision Blizzard’s Q1 2022 earnings report, the company announced that Diablo resurrected will release on Android and iOS on June 2nd — and, surprise, on PC, too, in open beta.

According to the developers, Diablo Immortal will have cross-play and cross-progression with controller and keyboard support on PC.

Set after Diablo II: Lord of Destruction, Diablo Immortal is a free-to-play MMORPG. The game will be online-only, and, according to the development team, it will introduce new characters, storylines, and additional content as part of a “living, breathing, and constantly evolving experience.” Players are able to pre-register ahead of the June 2nd release date here.

Blizzard has lately been a firehose of information on new games and a long list of highly anticipated but constantly delayed titles. It’s working on a World of Warcraft mobile experience (with the earnings update saying it’ll release more details on that in the coming weeks) and a brand new survival game. Elsewhere in the Blizzard ecosystem, Overwatch 2 will enter closed beta starting April 26th, with internal testing on Diablo IV underway.

Diablo Immortal Global Launch Schedule

Diablo Immortal is set to release for iOS, Android, and PC (via Battle.net) in Open Beta on June 2, 2022, at 1 p.m. ET.

On the mobile side, Blizzard did note that some players will see Diablo Immortal show up on the Apple App Store and Google Play beginning the morning of June 1, but that this is simply in part due to the nature of how mobile games rollout, not a full launch event.

For those on PC, Diablo Immortal is already available to be pre-loaded for Battle.net, ensuring the ability to start up the game right when the virtual gates open at launch.

As for specific times, you can find the exact launch window for your region below:

10AM PDT
1PM EDT
6PM BST
7PM CEST

For those eager to prepare as best they can for the launch, pre-load options are available for PC users. Using the Battle.net launcher, future immortals and dungeon delvers can pre-load the game ahead of its official launch. As for mobile users, it looks as though you’ll have to wait until the official release arrives next week. If you’re looking to hop between both PC and mobile platforms, then you’re in luck, as the title has cross progression too.

Some out there will have participated in the open beta for Diablo Immortal earlier in the year, and will be happy to hear that all progress made during that time will be maintained going into the full release.

How to Enable Cross-Progression in Diablo Immortal

A Battle.net account is required to seamlessly play Diablo Immortal on both PC and mobile devices.

You can play as a guest on mobile and later log into or create a Battle.net account to carry progress over to PC. Be sure to keep in mind that guest accounts are only accessible on the device they are created on, unless cloud backup is enabled.

More information about regional servers, locale language support, controller support, PC requirements and other miscellaneous answered questions can be found on the Diablo Immortal website.

Diablo Immortal will launch with native voice chat transcription and speech-to-text

Diablo Immortal is hell, literally, but playing it doesn’t have to be. Ahead of the game’s June 2nd release date, the Diablo team at Blizzard talked about some of the accessibility features they’ve built into Diablo Immortal to make hell that works for everyone.

Controller support was something really important to bring to Diablo Immortal.

“You will be able to play Diablo Immortal with controllers on both mobile devices and on PC,” Blizzard wrote in its accessibility blog. “Many controls — including skills, accessing chat, and more — can be remapped from the controller tab of the settings menu.”

In addition to controller support, Blizzard is also sending Diablo Immortal reviewers a Razer Kishi controller that turns your phone into a Switch or Steam Deck-like apparatus. While Blizzard is sending us a controller peripheral to test as part of the review process, the developer said that the option is “not intended to incentivize or encourage controller play — touch screen, controller, mouse and keyboard, etc. are all super viable options.”

One of the notable features Andrew Webster reported in his pre-alpha coverage of DI was that the game, at the time, did not include controller support. That meant he was controlling the game via the on-screen buttons on his iPad. That’s not the most comfortable of situations for either a wide iPad or a tiny phone, making mobile controller support almost mandatory for a game like Diablo Immortal.

Chatting with friends is another feature designed to be as accessible as possible, featuring native voice chat transcription and text-to-speech functions. Here are a couple of videos of both in action.

Classes and controls in Diablo Immortal

Classes in the game include the Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, and Wizard. New classes will be released post-launch; the Assassin and Witch Doctor have been mentioned as possibilities, and data exists for a supposed “Blood Knight” class. New classes will be released for free.

There is no mana or resource system, only skill cooldowns. Characters are controlled using a virtual thumbstick on the left side of the screen while the ability cluster is located on the right. The class skills were designed around the mobile interface, to move a character and target a skill simultaneously.

Each class has a choice of 12 abilities and may equip up to 5 of them at a time. These include Ultimate abilities; each class gains a charge for their Ultimate by using basic attacks. Once this charge has been built up, players can choose to augment their basic attack for a short time.

Each skill has a rank system. Ranks are automatically gained as the player’s character advances in level.

Controls
The PC version uses the traditional mouse and keyboard setup from past games. Additionally, WASD character movement is available for PC players. The PC controls can be rebound.

The mobile version uses touchscreen controls. The hero is controlled via a virtual analog stick in the bottom-left corner of the screen, while the player’s abilities are laid out along the bottom-right corner. The mobile features limited controller support. An intended goal is for the game to be fully compatible with controllers. As of the closed beta, the game does not include controller support for UI menus such as inventory, skills, Codex, Paragon, or vendors. These aspects of Diablo Immortal still require use of the touchscreen.

Is Diablo Immortal still coming out?

Diablo Immortal will release on June 2, 2022. This release will include iOS and Android devices, as well as a version for PC players. A PC version is something that fans have been asking for ever since the game was announced, so it’s good to know that the developer has made it work.
