Fortnite Game Review: Is zero build permanent? How does the game make money?

Amazing Fortnite Survival Map Codes

Fortnite is an online video game developed by Epic Games and released in 2017. It is available in three distinct game mode versions that otherwise share the same general gameplay and game engine: Fortnite Battle Royale, a free-to-play battle royale game in which up to 100 players fight to be the last person standing; Save the World, a cooperative hybrid tower defense-shooter and survival game in which up to four players fight off zombie-like creatures and defend objects with traps and fortifications they can build; and Fortnite season, in which players are given complete freedom to create worlds and battle arenas.

Is Fortnite zero build permanent?

Building will soon return to Epic’s battle royale game, but don’t fret since Fortnite Zero Build mode is also here as a permanent addition. This is the long-rumoured Fortnite no-build mode, and the trailer for it also suggests that jetpacks are part of the equation too.

At the start of Chapter 3 Season 2 earlier this month, the Imagined Order (or rather, Epic) disabled all building in the multiplayer game and turned the battle royale into a straighter test of shooting skills. It was stated as only being a temporary thing, and soon Fortnite tracker will be a building game once more.

However, while the main modes will soon return to normal, anyone who prefers the no-build style can rejoice. Fortnite shop now has a Zero Build mode option, which players can select from the main menu and incorporates solo, duo, trio, and squad play. At the time of writing, it’s the main mode available and it works just like the rest of Fortnite Season 2 has done so far, with parkour, sprinting, and mantling to get around, and an automatic Overshield to offer extra protection.

The trailer’s below to give you some sense of the escalation in the “resistance” theme to come, with new and returning weapons such as the LMGs.

Right at the end, you can even spot the characters grabbing jetpacks from the walls of the blimp, which are set to control more Boba Fett-like. In the trailer for the No Build LTM we can see the first look at how Jetpack Containers work.

Zero Build here to stay in Fortnite

Players can now choose to play in build or no-build modes.
Despite the outrage of hardcore builders, Zero Build seems as though it’s officially here to stay in Fortnite.

Whether it or the classic build mode will prove more popular — only time will tell — but there’s no doubt the change has brought an entire group of players back to the battle royale.

The Basics and Gameplay of Fortnite

Fortnite probably has no need for an introduction by now. Chances are you either play it yourself or know plenty of people who do. But here’s a quick breakdown: 100 users hop on the Battle Bus, parachute down to a sprawling, continuously shrinking map, and compete to be the last player or team standing.

Two main constants have remained in Fortnite since its launch: the regular game modes (solo, duos, and squad) and the emphasis on building structures on the fly, whether they be for traversal, safety, or gaining the upper hand. Fortnite’s loop remains enjoyable because it’s an experience that can appeal to both casual players and hardcore gamers.

The building mechanic remains the most innovative feature, especially considering Epic regularly introduces features seen in other battle royales like PUBG and Apex Legends. After Apex Legends launched, Epic quickly introduced its own ping system for communication and respawn vans for reviving teammates. Both of these features work well in Fortnite, despite coming across as a shameless copy.

But the building is honestly incredibly novel, even now. The ability to quickly put together fortresses and towering skyscrapers from scavenged materials fundamentally changes the mid to end game.

That said, the building is also the biggest barrier to entry today. For a game this astronomically popular, Fortnite has a lot of controls to learn. Learning how to build during games, now that many competitors have been dedicated to the game for more than a year, would seem to be an extreme challenge. If you have somehow avoided the game hype up until now, you’ll be at a severe disadvantage, more so than most other multiplayer shooters.

How Does Fortnite Make Money?

What is the secret behind Fortnite’s success? How have they managed to make money by giving away their product free-of-charge? While most console releases make money from selling a hard copy or digital version of the game itself, Fortnite’s revenue comes entirely from microtransactions.

The monetization occurs when the player wants to acquire additions, dubbed “costumes” and “skins,” which they have to purchase. While users can continue to play Fortnite for free, a vast majority of players pay for these ancillary products that generate vast amounts of revenue for Epic Games. The game also includes a unique feature called the “Battle Pass,” which costs about $9.50 for a quarterly subscription.

Battle Pass generates the bulk of Fortnite’s revenue. The quarterly fee gives the purchasing player exclusive access to the game’s system updates–like changes to the map and character features–that a free player does not get. Additionally, it allows the player to buy the game additions for a cheaper price than if they were to buy them separately.

In addition, Fortnite players also have the option of spending money on in-game currency, called “V-Bucks,” which can be used to make in-game purchases. Although there are special deals that incentivize players to purchase higher quantities of the in-game currency, the exchange rate is roughly one U.S. dollar to 100 V-Bucks.

Players cannot use V-Bucks to buy anything that will actually affect their performance in the game. Instead, the currency is used to purchase cosmetic skins, dances, and pre-released game modes, which range from 200 to 2,000 V-Bucks (or $2 to $20). Many accessories in the Fortnite shop are available on a limited-time basis, prompting players to purchase coveted items before they disappear from the virtual store.

Price of a royale in Fortnite

Reviewing a free-to-play title is a strange concept, because in Fortnite’s case it can be easy to spend dozens of hours within its world without paying a single penny. Part of the game’s appeal is it multi-platform ubiquity and the fact that it costs nothing.

While there are many that would question the longevity of a title supported entirely by micro-transactions, Fortnite’s paid items are purely cosmetic and often just as zany as one would expect from a title sporting such a colorful aesthetic. Character skins, dance moves, and new pickaxe designs are available, but Fortnite’s greatest financial value can be found in its Battle Pass.

Costing $9.99, the Fortnite Battle Pass allows for a steady stream of cosmetics that can be earned by simply playing the game and completing weekly challenges. These challenges are often a time for the community to come together and solve puzzles. Finishing one Battle Pass actually earns enough currency to buy the next one, too, and players that don’t buy in will find their own stream of challenges.
