2048 video game

2048 is a single-player sliding tile puzzle video game written by Italian web developer Gabriele Cirulli and published on GitHub.

The objective of the game is to slide numbered tiles on a grid to combine them to create a tile with the number 2048; however, one can continue to play the game after reaching the goal, creating tiles with larger numbers. It was originally written in JavaScript and CSS over a weekend, and released on 9 March 2014 as free and open-source software subject to the MIT License. Versions for iOS and Android followed in May 2014.

2048 was intended to be an improved version of two other games, both of which were clones of the iOS game Threes released a month earlier. Cirulli himself described 2048 as being “conceptually similar” to Threes.

The release of 2048 resulted in the rapid appearance of many similar games, akin to the flood of Flappy Bird variations from 2013. The game received generally positive reviews from critics, with it being described as “viral” and “addictive”.

What is the trick to 2048

2048 is as addictive as Flappy Bird with just enough brain power needed to keep things feeling intellectual. This guide will help you win!

How do you play 2248

You must reach the end figure of 2248

slowly combine tiles together to build up your number and steadily work towards the end figure. The game works on multiplication basis – i.e. if you combine two twos together, the resulting tile will be a four. Use this premise to work out how you will progress to the end number.

How to Always Win at 2048

In 2048, you combine like-numbered tiles numbered with powers of two until you get a tile with the value of 2048. In some versions, such as Minecraft 2048, you’ll be merging characters or other objects instead of numbers. But the way you play is exactly the same.

Gameplay consists of swiping the tiles up, right, down and left, and any tiles that match in the direction and adjacent spot will combine in the direction swiped. 2048 is a strategy game similar to Threes!
The game is deceptively simple as the basic mechanics are just moving tiles around, but underneath it is a complex and strategic puzzle game.

While it is fun to play, winning is even better. If you want to win the 2048 game, you need a strategy. The strategy described below is just one option and it works very well. Employing these tactics will help you win and allow you to get further even when the random nature of the game works against you.

Is 2048 good for your brain?

2048 may look like a series of doubling numbers, but really it’s a dopamine goldmine. And dopamine, which is a very useful neurotransmitter, is also kind of like an addictive drug the body produces naturally. It boosts both pleasure and perseverance, while decreasing stress. In other words, it’s exactly what you need to accidentally spend two hours on a number game on your phone.

2048 and games like it “offer players two of the biggest dopamine boosters.” The first is the ability to make predictions. Brains, like bookies and psychics, love making predictions. In fact they love it so much that even if you guess wrong practically every time, your brain will still be releasing dopamine just from predicting any outcome at all. It’s perfect for the endless possibilities of a 2048 board.

This 2048 game strategy can be broken down into a few key elements:
  • Use only two directions (as much as possible)
  • Never move your tiles up
  • Keep your tiles tidy
  • Focus on your goal
  • Aggressively combine downward and horizontally as needed

I go into detail into these processes below, and include some nifty tips to push your game even further.

How difficult is 2048?

Like the popular iOS and Android puzzler Threes from which it borrows its core concept, 2048 is a game as much about numbers as it is about space.

You have a limited number of free squares, and each move introduces another tile into the mix. But combine like numbers into their sum and you’ve opened up the board for the new tile and simultaneously progressed a little further toward your goal of making a magic 2048 one, a feat accomplished by combining two 128’s into a 256 and two 256’s into a 512 and so on.

So how exactly does one succeed at 2048? It’s fairly easy in fact to reach the end the same day you pick up the game. It takes simple strategy, a knowledge of when to alter that strategy, and, unlike Threes, requires almost no luck whatsoever.

Can 2048 be solved?

Problem Explanation. Solving this game is an interesting problem because it has a random component. It’s impossible to correctly predict not only where each new tile will be placed, but whether it will be a “2” or a “4”. As such, it is impossible to have an algorithm that will correctly solve the puzzle every time.

Is 2048 a maths game?

It’s a type of “sliding block puzzle” — think Threes!, on which 2048 is based, or the old-timey game klotski — that’s played on an almost Sudoku-like grid. Like Sudoku, it also involves some math. The object of the game is to combine the numbers displayed on the tiles until you reach 2048.

What is the highest score on 2048?

Most instances ended with a score around 390,000 and a 16,384 tile, but the best instance built a 32,768 tile and stayed alive long enough to reach a score of 839,732. As far as I know, this is the highest score achieved in 2048 without undos.
