On February 23, 2020, Ahmaud Marquez “Quez” Arbery, an unarmed 25-year-old Black man, was murdered in Satilla Shores, a neighborhood near Brunswick in Glynn County, Georgia, United States.

Arbery had been pursued by three White residents – Travis McMichael and his father Gregory, who were armed and in one vehicle, and William “Roddie” Bryan, who was in another vehicle and videoed the pursuit and shooting.

Arbery had entered an under-construction house with no doors five times in five months, including once shortly before the shooting, but security videos showed that he had not touched or taken anything.

Why Black Lives Matter ?

Black Lives Matter (BLM) is a decentralized political and social movement protesting against incidents of police brutality and all racially motivated violence against black people.

While there are specific organizations such as the Black Lives Matter Global Network that label themselves simply as “Black Lives Matter”, the Black Lives Matter movement comprises a broad array of people and organizations.

The slogan “Black Lives Matter” itself remains untrademarked by any group. The broader movement and its related organizations typically advocate against police violence toward black people as well as for various other policy changes considered to be related to black liberation.
