iPhone 14 and 14 Plus Hands-On: New Cameras, Larger Screen, eSIM Card
Apple added several new features to its 2022 iPhone lineup without raising the prices.
Apple dropped four new iPhone 14 models this year, including the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max which might have the buzziest new features.
cnet : The Pro models lose the infamous notch and get a pill-shaped display cutout around which Apple added a Dynamic Island for alerts and tracking live activities.
Probably the biggest upgrade to the non-Pro iPhone 14 is the fact that there is a second larger version with a big screen called the iPhone 14 Plus. Both the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus get a bunch of new features including a new SOS Emergency via Satellite service, a new video stabilization tool called action mode, an upgraded Cinematic mode and all the major iOS 16 features you’d expect (the new iPhone software comes out on Sept. 12).
The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus also work with the new Apple Watch Series 8 (three models) and the AirPods Pro 2 earbuds. We breakdown everything announced for the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus including their price, features, colors, release date and more.
Here’s a first look at the new iPhone 14 Pro
Apple just wrapped up its big iPhone event, where it announced a bunch of new products, including the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, two new iPhone Pro models and more. We quickly ran over to take a peek at the new iPhone 14 Pro to show you what it’s like.
cnbc : As you can see above, it looks a lot like last year’s model from the back. But, there are some noteworthy changes. Unsurprisingly, the cameras are even better — Apple highlights camera improvements every year — and include a 48-megapixel sensor for even sharper photos and to let in more light.
The big changes are on the screen and inside. There’s new satellite connectivity, for example, which allows you to point the phone toward a satellite to send a message or call emergency services where you don’t have cellular service.
Apple offers few surprises with iPhone 14, but no price hike
Apple unveiled a new lineup of devices Wednesday with few surprises beyond one major one: It didn’t raise its U.S. prices during one of the worst years for inflation in decades.
fortune : At its biggest product-launch event of the year, dubbed Far Out, the company introduced the iPhone 14, fresh AirPods Pro earbuds and an Apple Watch upgrade that included a first-ever Ultra model. The iPhone retains the general look of the older version while getting camera enhancements, a long-anticipated satellite-messaging feature and — on the higher-end models — a new interface called the Dynamic Island.
Apple is betting the new features, along with the lack of a big price hike, will be enough to ward off competition from Samsung Electronics and other smartphone rivals. The company now accounts for roughly half of smartphone sales in the US and looks to build on those gains.
“While many of the features announced today are incremental improvements rather than groundbreaking new innovations, we believe that Apple has done enough to drive demand by persuading consumers to upgrade and indulge in its new products,” said Neil Saunders, managing director of research firm GlobalData Plc.
