How to Complete Jar Bairn Questline in Elden Ring

How to Complete Jar Bairn Questline in Elden Ring? What’s Jar-Bairn’s Role?

Jar-Bairn is an NPC added to Elden Ring in the 1.03 update. His questline is tied into another NPC’s, and he’s Iron Fist Alexander’s nephew. With his questline being relatively brief, players will likely wonder if he’s encountered again after leaving Jarburg.

ELDEN RING JAR-BAIRN QUEST GUIDE

Located in the village of Jarburg, Jar-Bairn is the nephew – be that through blood (clay?) relation or otherwise – of everyone’s favourite pot boy, Iron Fist Alexander. As a reward for following this Elden Ring Jar-Bairn quest guide and becoming the ruler of the jar folk, you’ll receive the Companion Jar talisman, which raises the potency of thrown jars.

However, this quest does have a couple of prerequisites which mean you won’t be able to fulfil your destiny of becoming Jarburg’s Potentate until much later into the game. Firstly, you must have cleared all three Volcano Manor hostile NPC invasion quests, and secondly you must have completed Alexander’s quest line. If you want to avoid spoilers for these quests, then come back later once you’ve finished them.

To reach Jarburg and begin the quest, players must hop down the tombstones jutting out of the cliff face just to the south of the Carian Study Hall. Jar-Bairn can be found sat at the top of a set of stairs leading up to one of the homes there. He will initially ask you to become Potentate to protect the jar folk from poachers, but alas, your hands are too rough for the job.

You’ll then have to cycle through reloading at the Jarburg Site of Grace and chatting to Jar-Bairn again several times until he mentions that a new Potentate with silky smooth hands has arrived in the village. As it transpires, it’s Diallos, but apparently he’s down pretty bad and will no longer fight. Head deeper into the village, and you’ll find the House Hoslow man tending to a jar in the shack at the very end of it.

Jar Bairn Questline Walkthrough Guide in Elden Ring How to Complete Jar Bairn Questline

After Elden Ring patch 1.03, Jar-Bairn shows up on the porch of a building in Jarburg. He asks the player if they want to be the next Potentate as it seems like the village’s last one died. Unfortunately, Jar-Bairn believes that our protagonist’s hands are too rough to become a good Potentate. If players leave and return, Jar-Bairn will tell them that the villagers said he could pick the flowers growing in the village. However, the quest won’t move to the next step until players progress the Diallos questline to the point where he leaves Volcano Manor.

Once Diallos has left Volcano Manor, and players have completed Jar-Bairn’s quest to the point where he says they can pick flowers, then reload the area several times and rest at the Site of Grace and Diallos should appear in a nearby building. Talk to him and then speak with Jar-Bairn to get the news that Diallos is the village’s new Potentate.

If they rest at a Site of Grace again, players will see that many pots have been smashed and that Diallos has been gravely wounded trying to save them. Fortunately, he was able to save one, Jar-Bairn. Speak with him in the middle of the village and then reload the area. Jar-Bairn will say that he’s thinking of setting out on a journey, but he won’t actually leave.

Now, players need to complete Alexander the Jar Warrior’s questline and obtain Alexander’s Innards. Once they have the item, they can return it to Jarburg and give it to Jar-Bairn. He will then have the courage to set out on his journey and bid farewell to the player.

Jar-Bairn’s Role in Elden Ring

Returning to the matter of Jar-Bairn, this little warrior pot was added to Elden Ring in patch 1.03. He is one of the inhabitants of Jarburg, a mostly peaceful village of warrior pots who do not wish to fight. Jar-Bairn is Alexander’s nephew, though it’s not detailed how this came to be. In the base game, Alexander’s quest takes players to the cliff overlooking it, but there is no reason to go inside.

The place offered various flowers and several cracked and ritual pots for use in crafting, and that was all. Jar-Bairn adds a friendly voice to the quirky setting but does not do anything by himself. However, as of the patch, Diallos will appear in a hut, having renounced the Volcano Manor. After exhausting both Jar-Bairn and Diallos’ dialogue, the village is attacked by poachers. Diallos is finally able to become a champion by repelling them, but he dies in the process.

While he is saddened by the loss, Jar-Bairn does the most respectful thing a warrior jar can and places some of Diallos’ remains within himself. He also takes up the Hoslow creed, “The tale of House Hoslow is told in blood.” The player can then give Jar-Bairn some of Alexander’s remains, which he will also recycle. Out of respect for Jarburg’s new hero and his uncle, Jar-Bairn resolves to set out on a quest of his own.

While this, unfortunately, marks the end of the player’s interactions with this remarkably chipper NPC, he will leave the Companion Jar talisman where he once stood. For the time being, that marks the end for one of Elden Ring’s most upbeat characters. Even if the talisman’s consumable-enhancing effect won’t be useful for most players, they should still feel accomplished helping a young man follow in his heroes’ footsteps.

How do you start Jar Bairn’s quest in Elden Ring?

Jar Bairn’s quest doesn’t officially start until much later in the game, though you can meet him at any time in Jarburg. Jarburg is underneath the Carian Study Hall, and you can access it either by jumping down the gravestones south of the tower, near where you fought Liurnia’s spin on the Tibia Mariner.

Exhaust his dialogue, then reload the area and speak to him again. He asks you to pick flowers, but doesn’t mention which ones. The town has Poisonbloom, Miquella’s Lily, and a few Tarnished Sunflowers, so just grab at least one of each.

If you’ve started Alexander’s quest – which you can do by freeing him from the ground near the bridge over Murkwater – reload the area and speak with Jar Bairn again. This time, he tells you about Alexander. Reload one more time and chat with the wee sprat, and he’ll talk about poachers.

How do you find Jar Bairn’s potentate?

The next step unlocks after Diallos leaves Volcano Manor. If you haven’t met Diallos yet, his quest begins back in Liurnia. This happens either when you defeat Haslow, and Diallos realizes he’s had enough, or if you defeat Rykard first. Everyone leaves after that, including Rya, so hold off beating him until you’re sure you’ve finished with the Manor.

Once Diallos is gone, head back to Jarburg and speak with Jar Bairn once again, exhausting his dialogue as usual. Find Diallos and chat with him too, then reload the area and speak with them both again. You may have to rest at the Site of Grace there for their dialogue to change.
