SNK has confirmed that The King of Fighters 15 launched with 39 playable characters, which consist of 13 teams of three, plus an additional boss character.

Of the characters revealed so far, only three are new characters never-before-seen in the series.

The series was developed originally for SNK’s Neo Geo MVS arcade hardware.

This served as the main platform for the series until 2004 when SNK retired it in favor of the Atomiswave arcade board.
