How many GB is Modern Warfare? What is the best weapon in the game?

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a 2009 first-person shooter game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It is the sixth installment in the Call of Duty series and the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It was released worldwide on November 10, 2009, for Microsoft Windows, the PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. A separate version for the Nintendo DS, titled Modern Warfare: Mobilized, was also released on the same day. A version for macOS was developed by Aspyr and released in May 2014, and the Xbox 360 version was made backward compatible for the Xbox One in 2018.

How many GB is Modern Warfare?

Modern Warfare started life with a massive 175GB requirement to store on drives, making it one of the biggest games ever. While fans assumed that Infinity Ward would work to greatly reduce this number, continuous updates have pushed it higher and higher, and despite their best efforts, it still takes requires the same space as it did at launch.

Obviously, this is a huge amount of space for a game to take up, so players have been trying to figure out why it needs to take such a significant chunk of your drives. Here’s everything we know about why Modern Warfare is so big.

File size has always been an issue for Infinity Ward with Modern Warfare. Back in February 2020, one of the game’s producers apologized on Twitter about the size of updates, saying that the team were “constantly trying to fight back against both download size and disk footprint,” as they dropped asset packs to try and reduce the overall size.

The devs tried again in March 2021, reducing the game by 30.6GB, but that just brought it back to 175GB, and still suggested it would need more for mandatory updates.

As for why it’s so large, Infinity Ward have never said officially, but there are plenty of theories. In general, the most accepted idea is the fact that Modern Warfare has too many assets. Some players suggest that holding the cosmetics from the store along with un-compressed textures for maps are what cause these issues, while others believe that Infinity Ward simply didn’t do enough to compress the game down.

What is the best weapon in Modern Warfare 2?

Tier 1 (Excellent)

SCAR-H (Very accurate and amazing irons)

FAL (Like the M21 EBR with more movement speed)

AK47 (Like the SCAR, but with a higher fire rate)

UMP-45 (Excellent Range, overpowered when silenced)

Vector (Excellent accuracy and fire rate more than offset very low damage)

P90 (Fast TTK, Good irons, huge mag)

Mini-Uzi (Very Fast TTK and looks cool)

RPD (Powerful, Accurate, and lots of ammo, my personal favorite)

All Sniper Rifles (I don’t need to explain why I love the Intervention, Barrett feels so badass, WA2000 is a nice balanced sniper, and M21 EBR is really easy to use)

G18 (Fast TTK, excellent backup weapon thanks to swap time)

M93 Raffica (Laserlike accuracy and excellent damage)

SPAS-12 (Excellent range and damage, doesn’t have a good feel though)

Ranger (Simply fun to use, almost always a 1 shot in its range)

Model 1887 (Even after the nerf, I find myself using this more than the others)

.44 Magnum (Raw power and accuracy make up for small mag)

Tier 2 (Good)

M4A1 (Well-Rounded weapon with no real drawbacks, but no real strength either)

Famas (Like an M16 with better irons and faster fire rate)

Tar-21 (Unique weapon that has excellent TTK but the irons and recoil are a little off for me)

M16A4 (Like a FAMAS but more accurate)

ACR (Extremely accurate and good enough damage, but is outclassed by Vector and SCAR for me)

L86 LSW (Fast fire rate, reload speed, and high damage, but the recoil is too much)

AUG HBAR (Fast handling, amazing irons, and good damage, but lack of ammo is a detractor, maybe borderline between Tier 1 and 2)

M240 (Great accuracy and very fast fire rate, but damage is low)

PP2000 (Has a poor feel to it, but is very accurate and has good range)

What are major innovations in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II?

Missions in Modern Warfare 2‘s campaign introduce multiple new innovations. One of the biggest changes? Swimming.

One mission, titled Wet Work, takes place in Amsterdam where a major arms deal is going down on the docks. Players are required to quietly dispose of patrolling enemies using silenced pistols or via stealth takedowns from the water itself. It’s a great chance to see the game’s latest water physics, which not only looks good but actually impacts the trajectory of bullets when fired in the water.

Infinity Ward was previously reluctant to take combat underwater. Only now, the team claimed, were they able to create the right visuals and physics to make the game’s gunplay feel accurate and rewarding. Weapons lose their impact underwater and grenades and flashbangs behave differently if they’re detonated beneath the surface.

Infinity Ward team members in Modern Warfare 2 also discussed improvements in the game’s AI. Friendly or enemy computer-controlled players have more realistic behaviors. They want to “survive” so they peek around corners and generally are more aware of their surroundings. They’ll also telegraph their actions, allowing players to recognize non-verbal cues from their AI-controlled teammates and enemies.

These innovations are all part of what Infinity Ward calls “CoD 2.0.” which will be implemented across the series including the next Warzone game, which the developer will reveal sometime in the future.

Modern Warfare 2 hits PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles and PC via Battle.net for $70 on Oct. 28. The game will also be available on Steam, a first for the series since 2017 when Call of Duty games became available only on Battle.net. Those who preorder the game will have access to the open beta when it opens later this year.
