Everton player ratings as Seamus Coleman and Mason Holgate poor and Abdoulaye Doucoure wasted vs Crystal Palace

Adam Jones rates the Everton players in their Premier League 3-1 defeat at Crystal Palace on Sunday

Jordan Pickford – 6

Was forced into a couple of important saves throughout the game and could eventually do little about the goals that his side conceded – with the real mistakes again happening in front of him.

Seamus Coleman – 4

Dealt with the threat of Wilfried Zaha well on occasion, but the influential winger was still able to cause a lot of threat down the Everton right while the full-back couldn’t really get forwards too often. Made a shocking mistake in taking a quick free-kick for the third goal.

Mason Holgate – 4

His positioning is still something of an issue and he was almost caught out to allow Jordan Ayew a shot at goal early on. As Palace gained in confidence, the centre-back couldn’t stop their attacks.

Michael Keane – 5

His long balls up to the striker so often didn’t find anyone and gifted possession back to Palace. He again proved powerless in trying to stop the hosts when they really got into their rhythm either side of the interval.

Ben Godfrey – 6

Looked strong down the left flank, putting in a dangerous cross and making some important tackles and blocks when he needed to. However, he was culpable in leaving James Tomkins free to score at the back post in the second half.

Fabian Delph – 5

Another who just couldn’t get a foothold in this match throughout his time on the pitch. Perhaps a little unlucky to be substituted, but Everton did need to change their shape.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 5

Was wasted in that position further back in the midfield throughout the first half and things didn’t really improve in the second period consistently. Got booked and was perhaps lucky to not get another caution for his angry reaction.

Andre Gomes – 5

At least looked bright in the first half, including a shot on the volley that was one of his side’s only threats. But, he played a part in what was a shocking third goal to concede.

Andros Townsend – 5

Couldn’t get on the ball to create chances for his team-mates, as the Blues where so often passive elsewhere on the pitch. He’s tireless in his effort but that’s not been enough recently.

Richarlison – 5

Was hardly able to do anything thanks to the complete lack of service that he got when on the pitch, before the bizarre decision to substitute him when Everton were in desperate need of a goal.

Demarai Gray – 6

Looked bright at the top end of the pitch, but it was a really poor mistake from him that allowed Palace to score their first before the break. His general creativity puts him above his team-mates, however.

Anthony Gordon – 6

Looked very bright when he came on and it was only a strong save from Guaita which stopped him bagging a goal.

Everton went into the game on a high after their late victory against Arsenal on Monday Night Football, ending their own run of seven Premier League games without a victory.
