Rocket League Review: Is the game good for brain? what are Soccer Modes?

Rocket League Knockout Bash Trailer

Rocket League is a vehicular soccer video game developed and published by Psyonix. The game was first released for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 4 in July 2015, with ports for Xbox One and Nintendo Switch being released later on. In June 2016, 505 Games began distributing a physical retail version for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment taking over those duties by the end of 2017. Versions for macOS and Linux were also released in 2016, but support for their online services was dropped in 2020. The game went free-to-play in September 2020.

Is Rocket League good for brain?

The mental side of Rocket League is huge. No doubt you’ve heard things related to it when people speak of being ’tilted’ or ‘rage-quitting’. Players can have a lot of misconceptions about what the play should look like at specific levels and the biggest one is expecting perfection.

Sadly, this can still be the case when players actually reach those higher levels themselves. ‘To err is human’ the saying goes and that applies to the highest levels of any activity.

Switching back to Rocket League Tracker, it should be easy to see why a mental adjustment may be needed when comes to errors in Rocket League Xbox.

No matter what the rank, mistakes are going to happen. A mentally skilled person is realistic and able to move on quickly from errors made by their teammates. They don’t focus on the ‘why?’ or the ‘how?’, they just accept that it happened and move on.

Immediately accepting and moving on from mistakes can seem like a large mental challenge. But it can be easier when you step back and see the bigger picture with a few more ‘truths’…

‘How did you miss that?!’ is probably the worst question to ask in Rocket League, for two reasons: First of all, there is no answer that will ever satisfy the asker or fix and undo the play. Secondly, the actual answer is usually one that all involved already know: THEY SIMPLY MADE A MISTAKE.

If you can find the ability to laugh at mistakes (your own AND others’) it will be a huge step in strengthening the mental side of your game.

Soccer Modes in Rocket League

Rocket League features a slew of game modes that are ideal for single player and party sessions, many of which were added well after the game’s initial release. Soccar, the standard, high-flying soccer-inspired mode, is the definitivegame type. Snow Day is similar to Soccar, but is played on a frosty field, with a much less predictable hockey puck in place of the ball. Hoops is a basketball-inspired spin on the game; giant, elevated basketball hoops with backboards, replace the standard goals. Rumble is a party-style Soccar mode that gives each player a random power-up. Dropshot is the most recent game mode; it demands that players juggle the ball to build up power before bouncing or spiking it into the floor.

The game now supports a wider range of platforms. The game is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. The Switch ($14.00 at Amazon UK)(Opens in a new window) version recently received visual and performance improvements that let you enjoy the game in a locked 60 frames-per-second performance mode, or a high-resolution quality mode.

More importantly, players enjoy cross-platform action, letting owners on PC, Xbox One, PS4 ($14.00 at Amazon UK)(Opens in a new window) , and Nintendo Switch play with one another. This does come with some restrictions, in that PS4 players are limited to cross-platform match ups with PC gamers only.

However, Switch, Xbox One ($14.00 at Amazon UK)(Opens in a new window) , and PC players can freely match with one another, greatly expanding the pool of opponents and teammates. This summer, cross-platform support will be expanded with full party support, giving you a friend code option to more easily connect and party with friends on other platforms.

Why Is ‘Rocket League’ Still Popular?

Unlike its modern counterparts, Rocket League isn’t based on a real sport – the game involves two teams of three players driving around in motorized cars chasing a ball and attempting to guide, or smash, said ball into a net. It’s a weird, almost dystopian amalgamation of soccer, hockey, and a demolition derby that feels like it shouldn’t work but it does. And despite being released in the summer of 2015, the game enjoys continued success with an average monthly player count of almost 96 million as of May 2021, as estimated by activeplayer.io.

So, why does Rocket League continue to be one of gaming’s most popular titles despite its age? The answer is quite simple: It’s honest.

Whereas other sports titles rely on an algorithm to determine the player’s success, thegameplay is completely dependent upon physics. It isn’t like FIFA where scoring a goal or sending your shot into the nosebleeds is more or less randomized, or Madden determining if your perfectly timed tackle is going to be as effective a wet noodle being used as a lasso. In Psyonix’s bizzarro sport, your shots and blocks are only as effective as your positioning and timing. Using a well-timed speed boost can be the difference between clearing the ball out of danger and missing the play completely, making yourself look like a complete fool to your friends in the process. It is also the difference between bagging a wondergoal and your shot sailing far wide of the mark.

So, one of the methods to Install the game and start playing is by going to the official website (https://www.rocketleague.com/) and click on “Play Free!”. After that, you’ll see the icons of the available platforms: Epic Games (PC), PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Continue to click on the one that corresponds to yours. Inside the official store, you’ll have to click on the icon that says “free” and proceed to sign in to your account.

Once connected, you’ll be able to press “Install” and see how it loads on your PC or console. The alternative method is by going directly through the Epic Games client or console’s store, look for Rocket League by its name or under the “Free” games section and install.
