What Final Fantasy has Cloud?

Cloud Strife is a fictional character and the main protagonist of Square’s (now Square Enix’s) 1997 role-playing video game Final Fantasy VII, its high-definition remake, and several of its sequels and spinoffs. In Final Fantasy VII, Cloud is a mercenary claiming to be formerly of SOLDIER, a group of elite supersoldiers employed by the Shinra Electric Power Company, a megacorporation responsible for draining the life from the planet. Cloud joins the resistance group AVALANCHE in the fight against Shinra, and driven by a feud with his former superior, the primary antagonist Sephiroth, Cloud learns to accept his troubled past and adapts to his role as a leader.

Cloud reappears as the protagonist in the 2005 computer-animated sequel film, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, in which he fights a new threat composed of a trio attacking his allies while also dealing with his own terminal illness, “Geostigma”. He acts in a supporting role in other Compilation of Final Fantasy VII titles, and is featured in several other games in the wider Final Fantasy series. Additionally, he has been featured in the fighting game Dissidia, various titles outside the franchise such as the Kingdom Hearts series by Square Enix and Disney, and as a playable fighter in the Super Smash Bros. series by Nintendo.

Cloud was designed by Tetsuya Nomura, a character artist for the Final Fantasy series, whose role expanded during the title’s development to include supervision over Cloud’s personality. Yoshinori Kitase, director of VII, and Kazushige Nojima, one of the game’s events planners, developed the story and wanted to create a mysterious character who acted atypically for a hero. After VII, Nomura assumed greater responsibility for Cloud’s development, and his design was revised to better conform with the series’ shift to a more realistic style.

Abilities of Cloud in Final Fantasy

Cloud’s greatest strength is in his swordsmanship. Though Cloud fell short of the standards of candidates admitted into SOLDIER, his swordsmanship nonetheless impressed one of the Turks. As a result of mako experimentation by Hojo, Cloud was greatly enhanced as a supersoldier, with superhuman strength, speed, and agility. This, coupled with him incorporating Zack Fair’s fighting abilities into his own, made him capable of easily handling other SOLDIER members and Turks.

In time, Cloud developed skills on his own, independently from Zack. Cloud has many swordsmanship techniques, seen most prominently in his limit breaks. The most potent and noteworthy of these is Omnislash (and Omnislash Version 5 with his Fusion Swords), in which Cloud performs a quick succession of powerful strikes from his sword. Cloud’s abilities also allow him to use magic from his sword, seen in the form of firing a blast from his sword with Blade Beam, summoning meteors with Meteorain, or a tornado with Finishing Touch. Beyond this, Cloud is potent with using spells, being well-versed in how to use materia; in both Final Fantasy VII and Remake, his in-game stats put him ahead of most party members in spellcasting.

Cloud can ride a motorcycle, and demonstrates particular feats of skill with it, able to use his sword while riding and battle nearby drivers. He can also ride a chocobo or a snowboard, and Zack notes he is adept at scaling a snowy mountain. Cloud has also shown himself adaptable in a variety of situations, reviving a drowned girl with CPR in Junon, or dancing at the Honeybee Inn.

Cloud Strife Mod  in final fantasy Was Too Hot For Some, So It Got Even Hotter

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was ported to PC at the end of 2021, and as soon as the game launched, modders got to work. Something that was evidently needed in this instance as a fair few of those who played the port early on labeled it a pretty terrible version of the game.

As well as fixing the game, modders have also been having fun with it. Cloud has been the subject of a lot of mods, most of which change the protagonist’s appearance. A mod courtesy of Juijub, highlighted by Kotaku and available to download right now through NexusMods, makes Cloud look infinitely cooler by giving him a leather jacket. It also makes him look infinitely hotter as that leather jacket comes with the tightest black crop top Midgar has ever seen.

Turns out not everyone playing FF7 Remake on PC wants their Cloud to be sexy, but they do want him to be cool. A number of people who almost like the mod but not quite have requested Juijub change it so Cloud is still wearing the jacket, but his rock-hard abs are covered up. Juijub has listened to those requests, gone back to the drawing board, and returned with something new.

Rather than bring Cloud’s top all the way down to his hips, the mod’s 1.1 update simply adds a tattoo to Cloud’s waistline. Credit where it’s due to Juijub, the tattoo does cover up some of Cloud’s stomach, but it’s probably not what its detractors had in mind. Juijub knows that all too well, writing “his stomach’s covered now” complete with a smiley face in the update’s notes.
