Fanatics Signs NFL Sportsbook Deal Amid DraftKings Dispute

The NFL named Fanatics its official sportsbook after deals with FanDuel and DraftKings expired due to streaming data disputes with Genius Sports.

Fanatics Fills the NFL Sponsorship Void

The National Football League (NFL) in early April found itself in its first situation since 2021 of having no official sports betting partner. Fanatics (FANA) inked a deal to become an official sportsbook of the NFL after the sponsor category for the league was vacant since multiyear deals with FanDuel (FLUT), DraftKings (DKNG), and Caesars (CZR) expired at the end of March, according to Sports Business Journal. Caesars, whose own NFL deal also lapsed in April, does not appear to be pursuing a new arrangement with the league, according to King, leaving Fanatics as the most active new entrant into the league’s betting sponsorship roster while talks with FanDuel and DraftKings continue.

The New Multi-Year Partnership Terms

The new deal reportedly includes rights to promote across NFL-controlled media channels, allowing Fanatics (FANA) to air spots during game broadcasts. In addition, Fanatics (FANA) will have access to hospitality and premium fan experiences at major league events, including the Super Bowl. The company also had its Fanatics Casino designated as an official online casino partner of the NFL. The new deal makes Fanatics the only operator with both an official sportsbook and an official online casino designation from the league, though the agreement is nonexclusive and does not prevent the NFL from signing other operators as the season progresses. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Genius Sports Streaming Cost Dispute

Bill King of the Sports Business Journal, who first reported the agreement as done on Aug. 18, 2026, wrote that talks continue between the NFL and both FanDuel and DraftKings. The fundamental reason negotiations between FanDuel and DraftKings and the NFL fell apart was that the NFL’s exclusive real-time data provider, Genius Sports, significantly raised the official streaming data pricing. According to King’s reporting, the sticking point for those operators has been the rising cost of official streaming data from Genius Sports, without which neither can complete a broader league deal.

Why DraftKings and FanDuel Allowed Contracts to Expire

Any company hoping to retain its status as an official NFL betting partner must accept the data-fee structure set by Genius Sports. The NFL told The Sports Business Journal (SBJ) that it remains open to various league partnership models, which was interpreted as a possible shift toward an exclusive agreement model with a single operator. However, with FanDuel and DraftKings together holding about two-thirds of the U.S. sports betting market share, there were extremely limited financial alternatives to replace the two companies.

A Shifting US Betting Landscape

The partnership arrives in a U.S. NFL betting market that generated an estimated US$30 billion in 2025. While negotiations with FanDuel and DraftKings remain ongoing, Fanatics is the first to lock in a new agreement. Looking ahead, the NFL deal could give Fanatics (FANA) an edge as it looks to increase sports betting market share during the crucial NFL and college football seasons.
