Ohio Stadium Upgrades for the 2026 Season
Before the 2026 football season begins, Ohio State has a list of additions, upgrades and things you need to know before heading to the ‘Shoe.
AI-Powered Wi-Fi and Facial Authentication
By the start of the season, Ohio Stadium is set to be equipped with a full upgrade to Juniper Mist Wi-Fi 7, powered by artificial intelligence. The project will expand the stadium network from about 1,800 to more than 2,000 access points, improving both coverage and capacity throughout the venue. The AI-managed system will streamline network operations through automation, real-time monitoring and predictive insights for more than 100,000 fans on gameday. High-density areas such as entry gates, concourses and the seating bowl are expected to notice the most improvement during the game.
Ohio State is expanding its Express Entry program in partnership with Wicket. After the university’s initial rollout in premium areas and for students last season, the program includes select public gates this year. The technology allows fans to enter Ohio Stadium using secure facial authentication for faster and smoother entry.
Mobile Ticketing, Fraud Protection, and Gameday Policies
Single-game tickets for some games will sell out. However, verified resale tickets are available on the Ohio State Athletics website, Ticketmaster and the Ohio State Buckeyes app. The university encourages fans to protect themselves from potential fraud by utilizing these endorsed sources for purchasing resale tickets over any other resale ticket options.
Ohio State Athletics has introduced new mobile ticketing features designed to better protect fans and reduce fraud. Dynamic barcodes will now appear in ticket accounts on Ticketmaster within 48 hours of an event. Fans can still add to their phone’s mobile wallet prior to the 48-hour timeframe for easy entry into the stadium. Additionally, mobile parking passes will transition from static QR codes to the same in-app system with dynamic barcodes and Apple/Google Wallet technology.
Cashless operations are used throughout Ohio Stadium, including for parking lots and garages, program sales, concessions, ticket office transactions and merchandise. All major credit cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay will be accepted at these locations. Day-of-game parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis on football Saturdays. All football parking lots and garages open at 5 a.m.
Ohio State has a no-bag policy at Ohio Stadium. Small bags, no larger than 5x8x1 inches, will be permitted. Guests with medical or childcare needs will be permitted to carry one bag into the stadium through either the Band Center entrance between Gates 10 and 12 or the Press Entrance between the Huntington Club and Gate 23.
Fans can now rent padded stadium seatbacks on a single-game basis after entering Ohio Stadium. Seatback rental carts will be located on A Deck and C Deck, where fans can purchase a seatback, take it to their ticketed location and use it for the duration of the game. At the end of the game, fans can leave the seatbacks at their seats for removal by staff.
Tailgating at the ‘Shoe offers a stress-free experience, with each full-service space designed for comfortable hosting. Located at prime locations, the spaces feature spacious tents and TVs streaming the day’s early games.
Buckeye Experiences and VIP Access
Fans can purchase a Buckeye Experience. This comes in 13 unique gameday experiences, including a pregame photo on the 50-yard line, sideline passes to watch warmups, a personalized videoboard message, VIP seats for Skull Session and more. VIP Buckeye Experiences include a parking pass, on-floor access to Skull Session at St. John Arena, a walk alongside the team and an all-inclusive meal in the Varsity O Club. Fans can sign up for game day alerts to receive texts for traffic and parking updates, weather information and emergency notifications.
