Timothée Chalamet Reveals First Look As Willy Wonka In Reboot + Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

DUNE Star Timothee Chalamet Shares A First Look At His Younger Take On Willy WONKA

Timothée Chalamet has given fans the first look at his Willy Wonka in the upcoming reboot.

Roald Dahl’s chocolatier has been brought to life on-screen twice before: by Gene Wilder in 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory; and later by Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s 2005 adaptation.

Soon, the mad-hatter will be reborn with some help from Paddington director Paul King. This time, we won’t soaring to skies in a glass elevator – we’re going all the way back to the character’s origins.

The script is co-written by King and Simon Farnaby.

As earlier reported by Deadline, the film is titled Wonka and ‘the story will focus on a young Willy Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.’

Chalamet will be joined by Rowan Atkinson, Keegan Michael-Key and Oscar-winner Olivia Colman, as well as Jim Carter, Mathew Baynton, Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Rich Fulcher, Sally Hawkins, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Paterson Joseph, Calah Lane, Matt Lucas, Colin O’Brien, Natasha Rothwell, Rakhee Thakrar and Ellie White.

Harry Potter‘s David Heyman is producing via Heyday Films. Back in 2018, he told Collider, ‘We are still trying to figure out how to tell that story, what the story is. It’s a prequel, it’s not a sequel.’

‘What makes Willy? When we find him at the chocolate factory doing the golden ticket, where is he before that? What leads him to that place where he’s locked himself away? It’s how does he get there? So we’re playing around with that.’

Wonka will hit cinemas on March 17, 2023.

DUNE Star Timothee Chalamet Shares A First Look At His Younger Take On Willy WONKA

It was announced back in January that Warner Bros. was officially moving forward with its Charlie & the Chocolate Factory prequel movie, and Dune star Timothee Chalamet has now shared a first look…

imothee Chalamet will lead the cast of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune as Paul Atreides when the sci-fi adaptation hits US theaters on October 21, and the Call Me By Your Name actor will soon bring another famous literary character to life as a younger take on Willy Wonka.

With production on Warner Bros. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel now underway, Chalamet has taken to Twitter to share a first behind-the-scenes look at Wonka.

We still don’t know a whole lot about this one, but around the time Chalamet’s casting was announced, we learned that Wonka will mark the first time the actor will “get to show off his singing and dancing skills with several musical numbers set to appear in the film.”

Paddington director Paul King will take the helm of Wonka, which has been confirmed to be a prequel to Roald Dahl’s classic children’s book. The movie is set to hit theaters on March 17, 2023, and will focus on the early life of the eccentric chocolatier.

Wonka is being developed from a script by Simon Rich (An American Pickle), with David Heyman (the Harry Potter movies) set to produce.

Willy Wonka: Timothee Chalamet Reveals First Look In Costume for Prequel Movie

At the beginning of the month, Warner Bros. Pictures revealed that Wonka, its Willy Wonka original story inspired by Roald Dahl’s novel, has officially begun filming in the UK. Academy Award-nominee Timothée Chalamet (Dune, Call Me By Your Name) is starring in the titular role, which was previously played by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp. Today, Chalamet took to social media to show off the first photo of himself as Wonka.

Wonka will also feature Olivia Colman (The Favourite, The Crown), Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean, Love, Actually), Sally Hawkins (The Shape of Water), and Keegan Michael Key (The Prom, Schmigadoon!).

The story is set to occur before the events of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Paul King (Paddington) is set to direct.

King is also reuniting with several of his Paddington stars for the new film including Tom Davis, Simon Farnaby, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, and Matt Lucas. Other confirmed cast members include Mathew Baynton (Ghosts), Jim Carter (Downton Abbey), Rich Fulcher (Marriage Story), Paterson Joseph (Noughts + Crosses), Calah Lane (The Day Shall Come), Colin O’Brien (The Mothership), Natasha Rothwell (White Lotus), Rakhee Thakrar (Sex Education), and Ellie White (The Other One). David Heyman (Harry Potter, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) is producing with Luke Kelly (The Witches) and Alexandra Derbyshire (Jurassic World: Dominion).

Heyman previously hinted at the prequel film’s story. “We are still trying to figure out how to tell that story, what the story is,” the producer told Collider. “It’s a prequel, it’s not a sequel. What makes Willy-when we find him at the chocolate factory doing the golden ticket, where is he before that? What leads him to that place where he’s locked himself away? It’s how does he get there? So we’re playing around with that. It’s not a remake… But it’s possibly an origin story… It’s challenging because you don’t have Dahl, you don’t have a Dahl book, and yet you have a Dahl character. But I think there’s a lot in his character that suggests who he is and also where he might come from or what his childhood or his middle age might have been like. So we’re exploring that. We’re discussing it. We’re in the very early stages and very excited about what lies ahead.”
