According to court documents seen by Insider, Perry Greene and the conservative congresswoman have been married for just over 27 years. In his petition, Perry Greene wrote that he and the congresswoman had been in a “bona-fide state of separation” before he filed the papers in Georgia’s Floyd County.

He added that their marriage was “irretrievably broken.”

He also asked that the divorce be filed under seal, saying “the record will contain sensitive personal and financial information, the public disclosure of which would negatively impact the parties’ privacy interests.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene, according to court filings, acknowledged receipt of the divorce petition Wednesday.

When contacted for comment, the congresswoman’s representatives told Insider the divorce was a “private and personal matter.”

“Marriage is a wonderful thing and I’m a firm believer in it,” the congresswoman said in a statement. “Our society is formed by a husband and wife creating a family to nurture and protect. Together, Perry and I formed our family and raised three great kids. He gave me the best job title you can ever earn: Mom. I’ll always be grateful for how great of a dad he is to our children.”

Perry Greene filed for divorce in Floyd County Superior Court on Wednesday, citing that the marriage to Marjorie Taylor Greene has been “irretrievably broken,” according to court documents seen by a number of news outlets.

Perry Greene described in the court filings that he and the Republican congresswoman, who have been married for 27 years, had been in a “bona-fide state of separation” since before he filed the papers.

In a statement to Insider, Perry Greene called Marjorie Taylor Greene his “best friend for the last 29 years” and an “amazing mom,” but ultimately, they are heading in different directions.

“Our family is our most important thing we have done. As we go on different paths, we will continue to focus on our three incredible kids and their future endeavors and our friendship,” Perry Greene said.

Marjorie Taylor Greene’s husband, Perry, graduated from Terry College of Business, University of Georgia, in 1996 and earned a degree in accounting. Soon after, he started working at Ernst & Young as an accountant.

In 1997, he was appointed as the general manager of Taylor Construction, a contractor business based in Georgia’s Alpharetta. Two years later, he became the company’s president and still holds the position.
