Could the Denver Broncos trade for Christian McCaffrey?

Many wanted the Broncos to take him during the 2017 draft, but they obviously did not. On Monday, the Carolina Panthers fired their now former head coach Matt Rhule, which has caused some across the NFL to speculate on whether or not the Panthers should be sellers at the trade deadline.

I actually like the Panthers’ roster; they have a solid core of players and I do not think they should be heavy sellers, but perhaps trading a piece or two is what I would personally recommend them doing. Perhaps one of those pieces is a running back who is on a large contract and has had troubles staying healthy the past two seasons.

Why Patriots should explore Christian McCaffrey trade with Panthers

After the Panthers fired head coach Matt Rhule on Monday, reports suggested teams could call Carolina about the availability of star players such as running back Christian McCaffrey, wide receiver DJ Moore and defensive end Brian Burns ahead of the Nov. 1 NFL trade deadline.

While the New England Patriots usually aren’t in the business of acquiring big names making big money, Patriots Insider Phil Perry made a compelling case for why Bill Belichick and Co. should look into a trade for McCaffrey.
Should Patriots target any of these potential Panthers trade candidates?

“The guy is an elite talent,” Perry said Monday on NBC Sports Boston’s Early Edition. “It’s a running back position where you’d be be spending a fair amount of cash. He’s set to make over $8 million in base salary over the rest of the year. If you trade for him at the deadline, it’s closer to $4 or $5 (million). The Patriots don’t even have that much cap space yet, so they’d have to do some maneuvering.

“You just went through a game (Sunday), and we talked about how great Rhamondre Stevenson was, but he was the only running back in uniform by the end of that game. You could use another body at that position, and this is one of the best in football.”

The idea of McCaffrey leaving the Panthers and heading to the Bills was fueled by Matt Rhule. Carolina’s head coach was fired on Monday.

And naturally, the Bills successfully did a good job running the ball against the Pittsburgh Steelers in their latest game However, the rushing the ball has been a problem for Buffalo for more than this season.

McCaffrey would certainly be an intriguing option nonetheless.

He has dealt with injury issues in recent years, but still has a promising track record and the Bills are plenty familiar with him.

While the Panthers took McCaffrey with a first-round pick at the 2017 NFL draft, McDermott’s first year at the helm of the Bills, the key is Brandon Beane. Buffalo did not hire him as general manager until after the year’s draft, so he did plenty of work scouting McCaffrey.
