Netflix Snags Exclusive Release for Hit Anime Show’s New Season

Netflix has released a wild-looking trailer

The next season of the hit anime JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure will premiere exclusively on Netflix in December, the company announced on Monday.

The premiere month announcement arrives alongside a new trailer for the season, which is officially titled JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean.

The season follows a woman named Jolyne Cujoh, who is sentenced to 15 years at a maximum security prison for a crime she claims she is innocent of. I won’t try to summarize everything else that happens in the wild-looking trailer — I’ve never seen the show or read the manga myself, so I just can’t do it justice.

Stone Ocean is the latest in Netflix’s growing anime slate. Sailor Moon’s latest movie hit the streaming service in June, and that same month, the company revealed a huge slate of anime series and films that are in the works. In March, the company said it was planning to launch 40 new anime titles in 2021. The additional titles will help Netflix stand out against competitors like anime streaming service Crunchyroll, which, as of Monday afternoon, is now officially owned by Sony.

Netflix is proving to be a go-to place for all things anime. As the streamer continues to expand its anime offerings, Netflix over the weekend announced it has snagged the exclusive streaming rights to Part Six of the popular anime series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean. Currently, only the first three seasons of the fan-favorite series are available on Netflix in the U.S., with just two seasons available in the U.K., according to Games Radar. Netflix has not said if all past seasons will be made available on its platform worldwide.

The exciting news from the streaming giant was made during a special streaming event over the weekend, during which Netflix also unveiled the first trailer for Stone Ocean. According to the season’s official synopsis, will be set in Florida in 2011 and will follow Jolyne Cujoh, who falls into a trap and is sentenced to fifteen years at the state-run maximum-security correctional facility Green Dolphin Street Prison after an accident while on a drive with her sweetheart.

While at the facility, dubbed “the Aquarium,” Jolyne received a pendant from her father that “causes a mysterious power to awaken inside of her. ‘There are things in this world that are more terrifying than death, and what’s happening in this prison is definitely one of them.’ A message from a mysterious boy who appears before Jolyne, inexplicable events that occur one after another, the horrifying truth told to her by her father when he comes to visit, and the name DIO… Will Jolyne ultimately be set free from this stone ocean they call a prison?

The final battle to end the century-long, fateful confrontations between the Joestar family and DIO begins!!”

Jolyne will be voiced by Ai Fairouz. The voice cast also includes Mariya Ise as F.F, Atsumi Tanezaki as Emporio Alnino, Yuichiro Umehara as Weather Forecast, and Daisuke Namikawa as Narciso Anastasia. Meanwhile, Daisuke Ono will return to the franchise to voice Jotaro Kujo.

jojo stone ocean : Stone Ocean is set to debut worldwide on Netflix this December, though it is unclear if the franchise will continue to release episodes weekly, as has been the case in the past, or if the full season will be available at launch. Japanese broadcasters will air episodes from January onwards.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Jolyne Actress Explains Why She Loves Stone Ocean’s Hero

The star behind Jolyne Cujoh in jojo bizzare adventure new Stone Ocean anime explained why she loved the new hero so much! When the new anime for the sixth iteration of Hirohiko Araki‘s original manga series was first announced to be in the works earlier this Spring, the only bit of information fans really had to go on was that Ai Fairouz had been cast as the new lead JoJo for the season.

Now that JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure has held a special Summer event for Stone Ocean’s debit, we have gotten to see much more of Fairouz in action.

When she was first revealed as the voice behind Jolyne, Fairouz had actually celebrated by revealing that stone ocean jojo had inspired her to get into acting, and she elaborated on this sentiment during the event where she went on to explain that she loved the hero because of how she grows into her own over the course of the series compared to the other Joestars we have seen in the past.

“All of the protagonists until now started out powerful. They had their flaws, but they were already competent when we meet them,” Fairouz began. “But when we first meet Jolyne, she’s sort of this brat. She’s whiny and doesn’t have a strong sense of purpose.” Then Fairouz elaborated with how Jolyne’s journey not only eventually involves her father, but puts an end to the longstanding Dio saga as well.

“But once she finds purpose in trying to save her father, she grows to be more powerful than anyone,” Fairouz continued. “Seeing her grow not only physically, but mentally was a huge inspiration for me. It taught me the importance of facing your fears. That mental growth is what makes her arc so great.” It’s clear from this very starting point that Fairouz is a huge fan of Araki’s original material, and will be giving the role of Jolyne her all in order to make it a success.

As for when we’ll get to see netflix jojo’s Bizarre Adventure’s new season, Stone Ocean will be exclusively releasing with Netflix this December. They officially describe the series as such, “Florida, U.S.A, 2011 — After an accident while on a drive with her sweetheart, Jolyne Cujoh falls into a trap and is sentenced to fifteen years at the state-run maximum-security correctional facility Green Dolphin Street Prison—AKA ‘the Aquarium.’ On the verge of despair, she receives a pendant from her father that causes a mysterious power to awaken inside of her.

Jolyne Cujoh and her dad are preparing for a prison break

The new season of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure goes to prison in its first full trailer. Netflix released the trailer for season 5 of the series, called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean, during a special panel on Sunday, where it also announced that the show will begin streaming in December.

netflix jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean follows Jolyne Cujoh, the latest in a long line of JoJos.

Jolyne has been sentenced to 15 years in maximum security prison for a crime she didn’t commit. Shortly after she arrives at the prison, her estranged father Jotaro Kujo — one of the main characters from the Stardust Crusaders storyline of the series — arrives at the prison to warn her that someone wanted her locked up so they could kill her more easily. And, of course, this murder plot and its mysterious perpetrator all comes back to DIO, the series’ evil antagonist.
This new trailer introduces us to many of this season’s characters including both JoJos, Ermes Costello, F.F., Emporio Alnino, Weather Forecast, and Narciso Anastasia. Even with the laundry list of characters, it’s just a few of the important people who will show up throughout the season’s story. Stone Ocean will be animated by David Productions, the same animation studio that has handled the series since 2012.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Stone Ocean will debut worldwide on Netflix in December, before being broadcast in Japan in January 2022. This is a huge departure for Netflix, which usually gets anime seasons nearly six months after they air.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean release date: When is the English dub coming out?

The Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean anime finally has a release date, and it’s sooner than anticipated.

At Shueisha and Warner Bros. Japan Anime revealed the first trailer for the series overnight, and we got info on when Stone Ocean will debut, where it’ll be streamed, and who the Japanese voice cast is. Unfortunately, we don’t have details on the English dub just yet, but we can anticipate when we can expect it to be released.

What’s the release date of Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, and when will the English dub be available?

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean will release worldwide in December 2021 on Netflix. This marks the first time in the franchise’s history where a series debuts as an Original Net Animation. This will also be the first time a Jojo series releases in all territories simultaneously.

It’s possible that Netflix may debut the subbed version of Stone Ocean and add a dubbed version later. However, since the series is releasing an episode weekly instead of the whole thing at once, we’d bet that it’ll be getting a simuldub. The big question is whether Netflix will be using its internal team or if Viz Media will continue dubbing Jojo. There aren’t that many characters from other Jojo series that make an appearance in Stone Ocean, but fans will want to see those voice actors return.

Fortunately, we do know the (partial) Japanese voice cast for Stone Ocean:

jojo’s bizarre adventure voice actors

  • Jolyne Cujoh: Ai Fairouz
  • Ermes Costello: Mutsumi Tamura
  • Foo Fighters: Mariya Ise
  • Emporio Alniño: Atsumi Tanezaki
  • Weather Report: Yuichiro Umehara
  • Narciso Anasui: Daisuke Namikawa
  • Jotaro Cujoh: Daisuke Ono

So far, this looks like it’s shaping up to be another fantastic rendition of Jojo. We don’t have an episode count yet, but we can assume there’ll be 39 since the Stone Ocean manga is 17 volumes long, just like Golden Wind. Luckily, we won’t have long to wait. December is only four months away.
