Kit Connor Lands the Role of Cyclops
Marvel’s forthcoming X-Men reboot has added a key member to the team. According to Deadline and The InSneider, Kit Connor has been cast as Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, in Marvel Studios’ upcoming ‘X-Men’ reboot. Kit Connor, known best for his role in the Netflix series Heartstopper, has reportedly been cast to play the fan-favorite Mutant and leader of Charles Xavier’s famed team. The actor is only 22 years old, which suggests many of his cohorts will likely be around his age.
He will step into Cyclops’ blue and yellow costume. Cyclops, one of the key figures in X-Men, is best known for the powerful beams of deadly energy emitted from his eyes, only controlled through a visor and sunglasses.
The Audition Process and Director
Casting for the film has been ongoing all summer and, according to the trade, a small group of actors tested back in July. Connor is said to have landed the role last week after meeting with Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige, as well as director Jake Schreier (Thunderbolts*), who will be at the helm for the much-anticipated reboot. Then, after some back and forth over the next few weeks, Connor was finally chosen.
It had previously been reported that Marvel’s X-Men movie was eyeing Drew Starkey (The Terminal List) for Cyclops, but that evidently didn’t pan out. Most recently, Cooper Hoffman was rumored to have gotten the part, although he refuted those claims. Task’s Tom Pelphrey, IT’s Bill Skarsgard, and Outer Banks’ Drew Starkey were other names making the rounds.
Joining the New X-Men Roster
Connor joins a cast that already includes Ready or Not star Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. It makes sense, though, that Connor was picked to star alongside—spoiler alert—Sadie Sink, whose role as Jean Grey was recently revealed in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. There have also been persistent rumors that Cailee Spaeny is in contention to play Rogue, and there have been rumors that Charles Melton (May December) may play Beast.
Legacy and Future of the MCU Mutants
The upcoming reboot is being billed as the X-Men’s major return to theaters since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019. James Marsden and Tye Sheridan have previously portrayed the character in four X-Men movies each, and Marsden will return in this year’s Avengers: Doomsday as well. If the cast is fully assembled by this fall, the next X-Men movie may aim for a 2028 release window.
