NBA 2K27 News: The Road to Launch
With the global launch of NBA 2K27 set for September 4, 2026, the basketball gaming community is already gearing up for the hardwood. Take-Two Interactive and 2K have initiated their rollout strategy by officially sunsetting the old MyNBA 2K companion app, which was delisted on August 18 and fully shut down on August 21, 2026. In its place, 2K has launched the highly anticipated NBA 2K HQ app for iOS and Android, fundamentally shifting how players prepare for the new season.
Available on platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and the Nintendo Switch 2, the franchise is pushing the boundaries of connectivity and gameplay. For players who pre-ordered the Deluxe Edition or Ultra Edition, Early Access begins on August 26, 2026, at 9:00 AM PT—giving fans up to nine days of playtime ahead of the global launch.
The NBA 2K HQ App: A Game-Changer Before Tip-Off
Launched on August 21, five days before Early Access, the NBA 2K HQ app is designed to ensure players are always close to the action. Available for devices running iOS 18 or later, and Android 11.0 or above, the app serves as the ultimate companion tool.
Full MyPLAYER Builder on Mobile
The crown jewel of NBA 2K HQ is its full integration with the NBA 2K27 MyPLAYER Builder. Players no longer need to wait until they are in front of their console to theory-craft. With full access directly in-app, users can create up to 15 different MyPLAYER builds on the go.
Once a build is created on NBA 2K HQ, players do not have to navigate complicated app menus to transfer their data. Custom builds can be seamlessly uploaded straight to the home console setup. Furthermore, players can instantly share their favorite creations with friends from anywhere using QR codes.

Whether our players want to craft their next build so they can step onto the hardwood fully prepped, or check in with their Crew between sessions, they’ll never have to hit pause on their progress.
Face Scans, Crew Management, and Daily Rewards
Beyond the builder, NBA 2K HQ introduces several quality-of-life improvements and social tools:
- High-Fidelity Face Scans: The app features a new-and-improved Face Scan with a quicker, more accurate scanning process and high-fidelity texture quality, designed to seamlessly insert players into their basketball fantasy.
- 24/7 Crew Integration: Players can tap into their squad around the clock. The app provides full Crew management capabilities, including roster controls, invite management, friend lists, and real-time messaging.
- Progression and Rewards: Continuous tracking for Daily Leaderboards and Crew Rewards allows players to view their rank in real time. The app also incentivizes daily use with mobile-exclusive daily login rewards.
While early adoption is high, some Google Play Store users have reported initial technical hiccups, including a finicky builder interface on touch screens, infinite loading screens, and frequent prompts requiring users to log back into their PSN accounts after short periods of inactivity.
NBA 2K27’s Groundbreaking Co-Ed City
On the console side, NBA 2K27 is introducing what 2K describes as the most versatile MyPLAYER Builder in franchise history, coupled with a monumental shift in social gameplay.
Female MyPLAYERs and Total Gameplay Parity
For the first time ever, players can create female MyPLAYERs using the MyPLAYER Builder and compete seamlessly in The City. This marks a major milestone in NBA 2K history, offering a fully co-ed City environment.
To ensure absolute competitive balance, 2K has built all MyPLAYERs—male and female—on the exact same framework. This means that in-game ratings, height, weight, and wingspan are strictly determined by the chosen build rather than the avatar’s appearance. Once a male or female build is chosen, the selection for that save file is locked, guaranteeing complete gameplay and performance parity on the court. Players can squad up together and face elite competition across all City venues, including The REC, The Theater, Street Kings, and Park.
Signature Blueprints and the New Builder Path
Whether starting from scratch in the NBA 2K HQ app or in-game, the MyPLAYER Builder is vastly expanded. Players can utilize “Signature Blueprints” derived from actual NBA and WNBA superstars. By selecting a position, best skill, and archetype, the blueprint provides default attributes and Badges which can then be further customized.
For those who want to design their player down to the last pixel, the new builder path includes a revamped Takeover system, strategic Badge Tokens, Build Specializations, and the new Synergy System.

With NBA 2K HQ officially live on app stores, the window for preparation is wide open. By combining a robust mobile toolkit with groundbreaking console features like the Co-Ed City and the all-new builder path, NBA 2K27 is setting the stage for a highly connected and competitive season.
