Warzone Season 5 Patch Notes: Verdansk Drone Labs, Meta Shifts & Spectre’s Return

July 23, 2026, marks the massive deployment of Season 5 for Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Warzone. The player base has been starving for a structural shakeup, and Raven Software alongside Treyarch just delivered a behemoth of an update. We aren’t just talking about a couple of minor bug fixes. We’re looking at a brand-new, high-stakes point of interest (POI) carved straight into Verdansk, brutal mobility tweaks to top-tier weapons, and an injection of chaotic combat modes that will completely rewrite your endgame strategies.

Warzone Returns to Verdansk: The High-Stakes ‘Drone Labs’ POI

If you’ve been comfortably dropping near Quarry, you’ll need to adapt immediately. The landscape just got a lot more hostile. Positioned straight east of the TV Station and south of Quarry, the new Drone Labs POI is shaping up to be the ultimate hot-drop for aggressive squads.

According to Daniel Noel at Activision, this facility is crawling with patrolling supply drones. Shoot them out of the sky, and they’ll drop premium loot. But there’s a massive catch: doing so is a high-risk, high-reward play that immediately broadcasts your location to nearby teams. If you can survive the initial firefight, there are heavily circulating rumors of a highly coveted, fully-armed JLTV waiting on-site for whichever squad manages to lock down the perimeter first.

Killstreaks and Field Upgrades That Matter

Season 5 isn’t just dropping new geography; it’s bringing the pain from the skies. The new HKDs Killstreak arrives directly from The Guild’s arsenal, allowing you to unleash a devastating aerial drone payload that will easily flush out stubborn roof-campers. Plus, if your squad struggles with late-game buybacks in Resurgence or Battle Royale, the new stackable Quickdrop Kit is a mandatory pickup that significantly cuts down your team’s redeployment timers.

Weapon Balancing & The Meta Shift: Is the Superi 46 Finally Dead?

Let’s talk raw numbers. Because the official patch notes are telling a very specific story about the state of close-quarters combat.

For the last month, the Superi 46 SMG has been an absolute terror, allowing players to sprint around corners at blistering speeds. The devs have finally attempted to reel it in. But did they go far enough? The base movement speed on the Superi was chopped from 5m/s down to 4.9m/s, with crouched movement dropping to 1.9m/s and sprint speed shaved slightly to 5.8m/s.

Over on Reddit’s r/CODWarzone community, the consensus remains highly skeptical. Analytical players correctly point out that it’s the weapon’s attachments that break its mobility—meaning a custom-kitted Superi is likely still going to dominate the close-range meta despite the base nerfs.

Meanwhile, the popular FJX Horus took a massive hit to its viability. Its maximum damage range was gutted from 10.16 meters down to just 8.63 meters, while its near-mid range dropped from 20.32 meters to 17.27. If you challenge a competent Assault Rifle player at mid-range with this thing now, you will lose.

Assault Rifles and Sniper Support Buffs

Don’t sleep on the buffs, though. The overarching theme of Season 5’s weapon tuning is raising the minimum damage floor across the board. Guns like the Minibak received serious buffs, pushing its minimum damage up to 26 and increasing its max damage range to 11.43 meters. This effectively widens your options for heavy-hitting sniper support builds.

On the heavier side of the loadout screen, the Holger 26 saw its lower torso damage modifier drop from 1.1x to a flat 1x. It’s a relatively minor tweak—likely only costing you one extra bullet at long range—but in high-TTK engagements, that single bullet is the difference between a squad wipe and a trip to the Gulag.

The Season 5 Battle Pass: Spectre, The FG42, and The Gremlin

With a new season comes a fresh grind. The Season 5 Battle Pass brings over 100 unlockable tiers, headlined by a legendary face: Spectre.

The notorious free-agent assassin from Black Ops 3 and 4 is this season’s instant unlock, complete with a slick, BlackCell-exclusive “Cipher” skin for premium buyers. But let’s be honest, you’re here for the new guns.

  • The FG42 (Assault Rifle): Unlocked for free as an HVT reward on Page 3. It’s billed as a highly versatile, well-rounded AR with average mobility and serious stopping power. We expect this to slide perfectly into medium-to-long-range engagements on Verdansk.
  • The Gremlin (SMG): Unlocked free on Page 6. This dual-wield capable, fully automatic bullet hose features top-tier handling. Given the recent range nerfs to the Horus, the Gremlin might just fill the void for ultra-close-range building clearing.

Black Ops 7 Multiplayer & Zombies Get Chaotic

We can’t ignore the core game. Black Ops 7 multiplayer is receiving five massive new maps, including a beautiful remaster of the fan-favorite Frequency (dropping you into a Hunan mountain listening station) and an incredibly weird mid-season map called Turbo Tilt—a 6v6/2v2 pinball machine-inspired arena rooted heavily in Nuketown’s history.

Zombies fans, you aren’t left behind. Season 5 is being touted as the biggest content drop yet, bringing the Eidskallen Lighthouse survival map at launch. This all paves the way for the highly anticipated mid-season round-based finale map, Rex Infernus.

As the servers go live on July 23, one thing is certain: The skill gap just widened. Update your loadouts, learn the rotations around Drone Labs, and stop rushing open fields with the nerfed FJX Horus.
