Semantle
Semantle is a fun word guessing game where you try to figure out a hidden word based on clues about its semantic similarity to other words.
How to Play and Win at Semantle: The Semantic Word Guessing Game
To play Semantle, go to the website semantle.novalis.org. You will then see a scoreboard showing how close the words you have guessed are to the hidden word of the day.
Your first goal is to simply guess any word to get a baseline sense of where to start. The game will then give you a color range from red to green to indicate how semantically close that word is to the hidden word.
The closer your guesses are, the greener the number will become. The highest possible score is 1000, meaning you guessed the hidden word.
Using Clues to Narrow Down the Hidden Word
After each guess, Semantle will show you up to 10 suggested words that are semantically similar to help you hone in on the hidden word. Pay close attention to these clues!
The more words you guess, the more accurate the clues will become. Try using the suggested words as your next guesses and see if they get you closer to the hidden word.
By analyzing patterns in the suggestions and leveraging synonym knowledge, you can gradually uncover semantic clues that reveal the hidden word’s likely part of speech, subject matter, and meaning.
Keeping a List of Potential Words
As you play, keep a list of potential answers that fit the semantic clues you have uncovered. Cross off words as you guess them and they are ruled out. Over time, your list of possibilities will get shorter and shorter.
When you get down to just a few options, start rapidly guessing those remaining words until you uncover the hidden secret and achieve a score of 1000!
