Versus Fighting Game

A fighting game or versus fighting game is a video game genre that involves combat between two (or more) players.

Fighting game combat features mechanics such as blocking, grappling, counter-attacking, and chaining attacks together into “combos”. Characters generally engage in battle using hand-to-hand combat—often some form of martial arts.

The fighting game genre is related to, but distinct from, the beat ’em up genre, which pits large numbers of computer-controlled enemies against one or more player characters.

The King of Fighters XV

The King of Fighters XV, also called KOF XV, is a fighting game developed by SNK.

It was released on February 17, 2022, for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This is also the first game in The King of Fighters series created using Unreal Engine 4, and the first to implement GGPO rollback networking.

Taking place after the events of The King of Fighters XIV, the narrative primarily revolves around two fighters with multiverse-related supernatural powers, Shun’ei and Isla, among other returning heroes facing revived threats.

King of Fighters XV generally received praise for its character roster, team-based gameplay, and smooth online performance, but criticism for its story mode, complex tutorials, and mechanics.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is a fighting video game co-developed by Atlus and Arc System Works. It was released for arcades in 2013, and for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2014 by Atlus in Japan and North America and by Sega in Europe.

Street Fighter V: Champion Edition

Street Fighter V is a fighting game developed by Capcom and Dimps and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Windows in 2016.

Similar to the previous games in the Street Fighter series, Street Fighter V features a side-scrolling fighting gameplay system. The game also introduces the “V-Gauge”, which builds as the player receives attacks and adds three new skills. The game features 16 characters at launch, with four of them being new to the series. A main story mode and 30 additional characters were added through updates and downloadable content.

Fighter V: Champion Edition, includes all fighters, stages, and most of the costumes released through its fourth season. It was released on February 14, 2020, receiving a physical release in the form of the original Street Fighter V disc, containing a voucher code to download the remaining content.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a 2018 crossover fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the fifth installment in the Super Smash Bros. series, succeeding Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.

Guilty Gear –Strive–

Guilty Gear Strive is a fighting video game developed and published by Arc System Works. It is the seventh mainline installment of the Guilty Gear series, and the 25th overall. The game was released worldwide on June 11, 2021. It uses Unreal Engine 4.

Dragon Ball FighterZ

Dragon Ball FighterZ is a 2.5D fighting game, developed by Arc System Works and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.

Based on the Dragon Ball franchise, it was released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows in most regions in January 2018, and in Japan the following month, and was released worldwide for the Nintendo Switch in September 2018.

Tekken 7 is a fighting game developed and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.

It is the seventh main and ninth overall installment in the Tekken series. Tekken 7 had a limited arcade release in March 2015. An updated arcade version, Tekken 7: Fated Retribution, was released in July 2016, and features expanded content including new stages, costumes, items and characters.

The home versions released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Microsoft Windows in June 2017 were based on Fated Retribution.

Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate

Mortal Kombat 11 is a 2019 fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros.

Interactive Entertainment. Running on a heavily modified version of Unreal Engine 3, It is the eleventh main installment in the Mortal Kombat series and a sequel to 2015’s Mortal Kombat X.

Announced at The Game Awards 2018, the game was released in North America and Europe on April 23, 2019, for Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One—with the exception of Europe’s Switch version which was released on May 10, 2019. The game was released on Stadia on November 19, 2019.

Upon release, the console versions of Mortal Kombat 11 received generally favorable reviews, which praised the gameplay, story, graphics, and improved netcode, but it received criticism for the presence of microtransactions and over-reliance on grinding.

An expansion for the game was released on May 26, 2020, entitled Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath.

This expansion includes an additional story mode, three new characters, new stages, and the return of stage fatalities and the friendship finishing move.

An enhanced version of the game containing all downloadable content up to that point, titled Mortal Kombat 11: Ultimate, was released for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on November 17, 2020.
