Bad Bunny most-streamed artist on Spotify for second year running<\/h2>\n\n\n

The Puerto Rican star beats Taylor Swift and Drake, while Olivia Rodrigo continues meteoric rise as Spotify and Apple Music announce stats<\/h3>\n

Spotify<\/strong><\/a> and Apple Music<\/strong><\/a>, the two biggest players in music<\/a> streaming<\/strong>, have announced the tracks<\/strong> and albums that have been the most popular globally in 2021 (in the period 1 January to 27 November).<\/p>\n

For a second year in a row, the most-streamed artist on Spotify is the Puerto Rican vocalist Bad Bunny,<\/strong><\/a> whose songs were streamed a total of 9.1bn times, compared with 8.3bn in 2020 \u2013 a mark of how the streaming market continues to grow alongside the singer and rapper\u2019s popularity. After releasing two studio albums and a compilation in 2020, Bad Bunny released a series of singles in 2021 including the US Top 10 hit Yonaguni. He is followed by Taylor Swift, Drake, Justin Bieber and BTS in the Top 5 most-streamed artists.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old Californian pop star Olivia Rodrigo had the most-streamed song and album globally on Spotify, following the phenomenal success of her debut album Sour. Little known at the start of the year beyond teen fans of her acting, a series of variously angry and melancholy hits about love and teenage angst made her one of the world\u2019s biggest pop stars \u2013 she is the only artist to be nominated in all the \u201cbig four\u201d categories at the 2022 Grammy awards.<\/p>\n

Her breakup ballad Drivers License topped the Spotify list with 1.1bn streams, and was second to BTS<\/strong>\u2019s Dynamite on Apple Music\u2019s list of most-streamed songs. Rodrigo also appears at No 4 in Spotify\u2019s global list with the pop-punk song Good 4 U, which was the top song in the UK on both Spotify<\/strong> and Apple Music<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Lil Nas X\u2019s Montero (Call Me By Your Name), The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber\u2019s Stay, and Dua Lipa\u2019s Levitating filled out the rest of the Top 5 on Spotify\u2019s global list, while Ariana Grande\u2019s Positions, Pop Smoke\u2019s For the Night and the Weeknd\u2019s Blinding Lights appeared on Apple\u2019s.<\/p>\n

Lipa\u2019s 2020 album Future Nostalgia also remained popular this year, and was the second-most streamed album on Spotify, followed by full-lengths from Justin Bieber, Ed Sheeran and Doja Cat.<\/p>\n

In the UK, where Bad Bunny\u2019s popularity<\/strong> is considerably lower than elsewhere, Drake<\/strong> is the most-streamed artist on Spotify. Both globally and in the UK, The Joe Rogan Experience was the most popular podcast of the year.<\/p>\n

Spotify<\/strong> has unveiled its annual 2021 Wrapped<\/strong> campaign \u2014 where users can see the music they listened to the most all year \u2014 and with that comes the top artists<\/strong>, albums<\/strong>, songs<\/strong>, playlists<\/strong> and podcasts on the world\u2019s largest streaming service<\/strong>, with more than 381 million total users.<\/p>\n

The most-streamed song of 2021 globally is Olivia Rodrigo\u2019s \u201cDrivers License,\u201d with more than 1.1 billion streams . In the second and third spots respectively, are Lil Nas X\u2019s \u201cMontero (Call Me By Your Name)\u201d and \u201cStay\u201d by the Kid Laroi with Justin Bieber.<\/p>\n

The year\u2019s most-streamed album globally is Olivia Rodrigo\u2019s \u201cSour,\u201d followed by Dua Lipa\u2019s \u201cFuture Nostalgia\u201d and Justin Bieber\u2019s \u201cJustice.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

For better or worse, the most popular global podcast was \u201cThe Joe Rogan Experience,\u201d followed by \u201cCall Her Daddy\u201d and \u201cCrime Junkie.\u201d<\/p>\n
