Libby Hill, the TV awards editor for IndieWire, wrote, \u201cThis is Netflix\u2019s year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The streaming giant is betting on the highly popular \u201cThe Queen\u2019s Gambit\u201d in addition to \u201cThe Crown,\u201d which is in its fourth season and follows the ill-fated marriage of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.<\/p>\n<p>That show, starring Anya Taylor-Joy as a bright but tormented chess prodigy, sent chessboard sales surging around the world, and is the frontrunner to win top honors in the very competitive limited series area \u2013 for shows that last less than one season.<\/p>\n<p>With nominees ranging from the Regency romp \u201cBridgerton\u201d to the environmental documentary \u201cDavid Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet\u201d \u2013 as well as 34 Emmys won in technical categories released ahead of Sunday\u2019s ceremony \u2013 Netflix could be on track for an all-time high.<\/p>\n<p>AFP quoted Deadline journalist Pete Hammond as saying, \u201cWhat we\u2019re seeing is Netflix finally breaking through.\u201d<br \/>\u201cThey\u2019ve always done a good job with nominations, but never with the final tally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Disney+, the new kid on the TV streaming block in just its second year, will most certainly disrupt Netflix\u2019s celebration by sending beloved big-screen characters from \u201cStar Wars\u201d and Marvel blockbusters to the Emmys bash.<\/p>\n<p>Along with rival drama \u201cThe Crown,\u201d \u201cThe Mandalorian\u201d topped the total nominations count with Baby Yoda and a digitally de-aged Luke Skywalker.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPose,\u201d Billy Porter\u2019s LGBTQ-focused program about New York\u2019s underground ballroom scene in the 1980s, is an outside contender for outstanding drama.
