The agonizingly long wait for Grand Theft Auto VI is finally entering its final stretch. In a surprise update that predictably sent the gaming world into a frenzy, Rockstar Games has officially blown the doors off its upcoming open-world crime epic.
Not only did we get our first look at the official box art, but Rockstar also confirmed the detail we’ve all been waiting for: Pre-orders officially go live on Thursday, June 25, 2026, ahead of the highly anticipated global launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
Whether you’re ready to drop your cash next week or you’re still dissecting every pixel of the new art, here is a deep dive into everything Rockstar just revealed.
🎨 The Cover Art: A Love Letter to Vice City & 25 Years of Tradition
The newly revealed box art embraces the classic, stylized “comic book mosaic” tradition that has defined the franchise since 2001’s Grand Theft Auto III. It is an almost shot-for-shot homage to the original GTA: Vice City cover, spliced with neon-soaked imagery that screams modern-day Florida—or rather, the fictional state of Leonida.
And yes, for the purists out there: The top-left helicopter tradition lives on. The cover features an armed Sea Sparrow amphibious chopper, maintaining a weird, beloved design quirk Rockstar has strictly followed for a quarter of a century.
🔍 Deep Dive: What’s Actually On The Cover?
Beyond the striking synthwave-esque pinks, purples, and pastels, the nine panels are packed with lore, characters, and incredible details:
- The Protagonists: The center panels belong to our new Bonnie-and-Clyde duo, Jason Duvall and Lucia Caminos. Jason is an ex-Army grifter tied to local drug runners, while Lucia is a hardened survivor who spent time in the Leonida Penitentiary.
- The Heavy Hitters: We get a fresh look at supporting characters like Boobie Ike (a local Vice City legend running the Jack of Hearts strip club and Only Raw Records) and Raul Bautista (a seasoned bank robber seen standing ominously outside the Sinfrontera National Bank).
- The Rides: It wouldn’t be GTA without ridiculously expensive motors. The bottom-left panel features a bright yellow Pegassi supercar with scissor doors (a clear nod to the classic Vice City Infernus). We also spot a vibrant Principe Alvino V1 motorcycle doing a wheelie, a Clarion speedboat, and an updated Vapid Police Cruiser.
- Pure “Florida Man” Energy: Rockstar is leaning heavily into the untamed wild of the “Grassrivers” (Leonida’s equivalent of the Everglades). An alligator gets its own panel, representing the deadly predators lurking in the swamps. We also see a mystery woman enjoying a “Thaw” hard seltzer outside The Atoll Bar and Grill, sporting a “Vice Baby” tattoo, a “305” Miami area code tattoo, and a turquoise Vice City Manatees NFL jersey.
💰 The Pre-Order Elephant in the Room
Starting June 25, you can secure your digital copy on the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store, as well as physical editions at select retailers. However, Rockstar left out one crucial detail: The Price.
With Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick previously commenting on AAA video game pricing, there is rampant speculation among analysts that GTA 6 might break the standard $70 benchmark. Furthermore, there is still no word on a PC port, which historically follows the console launch by a year or more.
Are you pre-ordering on June 25, or are you holding out to see what special editions and price tags Rockstar hits us with? Let’s discuss!
