Powerball is an American lottery game offered by 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
It is coordinated by the State Lottery Association (MUSL), a nonprofit organization formed by an agreement with lobbyists and US corporations.<\/p>\n
From its inaugural drawing on April 19, 1992, until August 21, 2021, Powerball drawings were held twice a week (Wednesday and Saturday); a third weekly drawing (held Mondays) was added on August 23, 2021. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday evening at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time, at Florida Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee.<\/p>\n
Prior to MUSL conducting the official POWERBALL drawing, a Power Play multiplier number (between 2 and 5; or 10 if the advertised jackpot is $150 million or less) will be selected. This multiplier number will be displayed during the drawing, in which five out of 69 numbers (white balls) and one Powerball number between 1 and 26 (red ball) will be drawn at random. There are nine ways to win a POWERBALL prize by matching the winning numbers drawn in the official drawing for the date played. Match all five numbers plus the Powerball to win the jackpot, or match any of the non-jackpot-winning combinations to win other great cash prizes!<\/p>\n
All POWERBALL prizes are set payouts, with the exception of the jackpot prize. The jackpot prize will be shared among winners in all POWERBALL states. The jackpot will be paid in 30 annual payments or a one-time cash payment of a reduced amount. If there is no jackpot winner, the money in the jackpot pool rolls over to the next POWERBALL drawing.<\/p>\n

There will be a roll-over jackpot of $170 million in Saturday\u2019s Powerball draw, with smaller amounts up for grabs if not all your numbers come up.
No tickets matched the winning numbers on Wednesday, so the roll-over Powerball jackpot has risen again ahead of the latest draw, which takes place at 10:59pm ET today, Saturday 30 July.<\/p>\n
The estimated jackpot now stands at $170 million, with a cash value of $100.5m.<\/p>\n
A regular Powerball ticket costs $2. To play, you must pick five numbers from 1 to 69 and a Powerball number from 1 to 26. If the six numbers you choose match those drawn, you win the jackpot. Steadily smaller prizes are also available if some, but not all, of your numbers come up.<\/p>\n
The order of your first five Powerball numbers doesn’t affect your chances of winning. If you pick the numbers 1 3 9 13 17 and the Powerball 6, and the winning numbers come up 17 9 1 3 13 (6), you’ll still win the jackpot.<\/p>\n
However, you must correctly guess the Powerball to win the jackpot. So in the example above, if the winning numbers come up 17 9 6 3 13 (1), you would not be a jackpot winner. You would be eligible for winning a cash prize for correctly matching five white balls, however.<\/p>\n
To win a Powerball prize, you only need to pick one single number correctly: the red Powerball.<\/p>\n
Picking the Powerball alone will award you a $4 prize, which means that with a $2 purchase, you have one in 26 odds of doubling your investment in your ticket (there are 26 red balls to choose from).<\/p>\n
To win the Powerball Jackpot, you need to match all five white balls in any order, as well as the red Powerball.<\/p>\n
The jackpot is the fifth largest in Powerball history. The next drawing will be on Wednesday.
The next Powerball jackpot is expected to grow to $700 million after no ticket matched all six numbers in Monday night’s drawing.<\/p>\n
The numbers were originally drawn in West Des Moines, Iowa before moving to Universal Studios Florida in Orlando. Drawings moved to their current home in Tallahassee in 2012.<\/p>\n
Matching two numbers won’t win anything in Powerball unless one of the numbers is the Powerball. A ticket matching one of the five numbers and the Powerball is worth $7.

All states set the 2nd through 9th prizes at pre-determined amounts, except California, where all prize payouts are based on sales and the number of winners. The nine possible winning combinations are as follows, starting from the smallest, and thus the highest odds of winning.<\/p>\n
If your Powerball matches the one that is drawn you will get your $2 ticket purchase back and a couple bucks more, for a total of $4. The odds of your ticket matching only the Powerball is 1 in 38.<\/p>\n
