Is Diablo Immortal free to play for iOS? What is the story? How to unlock times?

Diablo Immortal – Everything to Know

Diablo Immortal is a mobile MMOARPG (massively multiplayer online, action–role-playing game) for mobile devices and PC.

Is Diablo Immortal free to play for iOS?

Blizzard’s newest Diablo game, Diablo Immortal, is now available on iPhone and iPad. Fans of the Diablo universe enjoyed an early rollout in some regions, but Blizzard has confirmed that the game should be freely available to play for everyone from today.

First announced in 2018, Diablo Immortal is a full-fledged action RPG that’s been developed from the ground up for mobile devices.

Diablo Immortal players can choose from six Diablo classes including Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, and Wizard, and then journey through various zones and the city of Westmarch.

Familiar Diablo characters, such as Deckard Cain, are present in the storyline, and players can complete an expansive quest to collect the shattered pieces of the Worldstone before the forces of the Burning Hells can gather. The questline takes place between the events of Diablo II and Diablo III.

Players share a world with others and can team up with up to eight people to take on group challenges and fight raid bosses. Up to 150 people can form a clan to earn clan achievements, and the game supports cross-play and cross-progression on PC and mobile.

There’s also a faction-based PvP system where players can work together to fight in an ongoing war. The top player on the server earns the Eternal Crown and becomes the leader of the Immortals, forced to defend their reign across a series of modes.

Diablo Immortal is a free-to-play title with Blizzard monetizing the game through in-app purchases, though the company says the “core game experience” will always be free. The game can be downloaded from the App Store. More information about the game can be found on Blizzard’s website.

What is the story of Diablo Immortal?

Diablo Immortal will tell stories set between the events of Diablo II: Lord of Destruction and Diablo III, taking place in the year 1270, though many of the game’s plot points have their origins in the Eternal Conflict. The catalyst of the plot is the destruction of the Worldstone. Although destroyed, its fragments carried Baal’s corruption with them, wreaking havoc across Sanctuary. The game’s main antagonist is Skarn, Herald of Diablo, who seeks to gather the Worldstone fragments to resurrect his master and reignite the Eternal Conflict. Simultaneously, a fledging Coven has emerged, its cultists roaming the land and spreading corruption wherever they trod.

The game’s plot will include what happened to humanity after Tyrael destroyed the Worldstone, how Tyrael was able to reform in Heaven, the activities of Deckard Cain, why Malthael abandoned Heaven, how the Demon Hunters were founded, what the golden age of Westmarch was like and the schemes of Adria and Maghda. The player’s character is a hero who allies themselves with the remnants of the Horadrim, aiming to prevent the enemies of Sanctuary from reclaiming and controlling the Worldstone.

It has been indicated that the game’s narrative may extend beyond the 1270 timeframe; when asked if vignette-type stories will feature, the developers responded that “twenty years [the gap between Diablo II & III] is a long time.” Similarly, the game may explore key events in the series’s lore (Destruction’s End is one such example). However, the game will not extend to the timeframe of Diablo III or IV.

Players playing on PC and mobile, will be able to play with each other with cross play, and the game supports cross-save, which means you can play on one platform and then continue on another, with all of your progress carried over.

Most of Diablo 3‘s classes will return for the mobile spin-off and the one notable absence is the witch doctor class. Like Diablo 3, Diablo Immortal is an isometric action RPG, where you play as several classes and level each one up to their maximum power.

The game has been somewhat controversial due to the way it was revealed at BlizzCon 2018. A lot of fans were angry at the reveal, given most of the fanbase were PC players.

Since then, the game all but disappeared from public view, only making short appearances here and there. Blizzard also announced that a PC port of the game would also be launched, but it remains to be seen, how many of the faithful will come back to the fold.

Diablo Immortal timeline: When does it take place?

Overall, the placement of Diablo Immortal in the timeline is relatively straightforward. Diablo Immortal takes place five years after Diablo 2 and 15 years before Diablo 3. As such, you don’t need to be familiar with Diablo 3 — much less the yet-unreleased Diablo 4 — in order to understand Diablo Immortal. However, it is probably a good idea to be familiar with some of the characters and events of Diablo 2, as it sets the stage for the setting.

While there’s a vast, expansive amount of lore and background material in the universe of Diablo, the Diablo games themselves have a relatively straightforward timeline.

These are the optimal in-game settings for Diablo Immortal on Android and iOS.

General
Auto Pick Up Items: Normal, Magic, and Rare On. Save yourself some time on the grind by turning on auto pick up for all gear. With the amount of space in your pack and the frequency of Blacksmiths, you shouldn’t be worried about filling it up early on.

You can keep a “Low” device load and still have a fluid gameplay experience with these settings:

Frame Rate: 30.
Resolution: High.
Image Sharpening: Off.
